confused "To completion" estimates jumps to 42 hours

Howdy HFCC crunchers.... I have just seen something that doesn't seem right... I know that the "To completion" estimate changes (minutes up/minutes down) depending on the performance of the CPU... but right now I have a HFCC WU (HFCC_target-7_02712279_target-7_000-0) that just jumped from a complication time of 1:30 hrs to aprox 42 hours (after running for 12 hrs).
- Has anybody seen this before?
- Will it correct itself?
- Do I abort?

I have rebooted the laptop and it's still the same. Any info about this strange behavior would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Just look in the Task Manager as admin (All processes) where the CPU cycles are going. Even on a heavily used computer, 75-80% would still go to the sciences, provided BOINC is allowed to run when the computer is in use.

Have the CPU Benchmarks been run recently (probably automatically/behind the scenes)?, as that may have recallibrated your system performance to a much lower level - i.e., it may have run when your laptop was being heavily used?

Also, what type of laptop have you got?, as, when I take my battery out of my Lenovo T410, the system SLOWS RIGHT DOWN!!!!

I personally also find that the performance of my new laptop (lenovo T520) performance varies by a factor of 3 depending on if I power it up plugged in or not. Very strange.

Not strange to me. My Sony when alternated from wall juice or not switches cycles [regardless if battery in or out]. Are you saying that if you powered up without mains, and then plug in, the cycles are not switched up? What gb009761 described before [IIRC] where on mains and taking the battery out causing a cycle reduction is outlandish. What does Lenovo have to say about that? Are they pushing their battery replacement business?

We had discussed this previously here. So in essence, you should get a stronger power supply.

Martin

Yes, Sekerob. I am saying that if I power up my laptop without it plugged in, then plug it in, the system still perform slow. Very stupid. The battery seems to work fine, in fact it is a new laptop for work. I haven't complain too much, since I only power cycle it once in a while for updates.

Martin, if your last comment was aimed at me, then, when (if - and it had better be soon, otherwise the world of Computing will have lost a skilled and enthusiastic worker), I get a new job, then I'll be able to afford a new adaptor...

Re: "To completion" estimates jumps to 42 hours

hhhmmm.... interesting comments/observations. My laptop is a Lenovo T400 and I just had the battery replaced last week. I will try to do some experiments with battery only (and in/out) and with the with adapter only.

Thanks for the help...

Re: "To completion" estimates jumps to 42 hours

WOW! Seeing 40+ hour estimated completeion times on HFCC WU on a 2600k running at 4332MHz.

Just looked again, now down to 31 hours, a couple showing as 25 hours and 2 just finished in 5+ hours but not sure what the estimates were for those.
