We at EVGA are starting up a new WCG team. One of our members has a quad-socket 48-core AMD system running. Task manager shows only 66% utilization, and looking at active tasks in BOINC manager there are only 32 active tasks. Can the manager go beyond 32, and if so, how?

Hi,
----------------------------------------Technically there is no limit, but somehow the setting in the device profile is not followed. For that there is though an override line that can be put in the cc_config.xml, think it's the <ncpus> flag, but here's the manual: http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index.php?language=1&view=91. The flag was not originally design for the purpose, but it seems to work. --//-- edit: A little bit more guidance from a previous member post: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/printpost_post,276985 [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 17, 2011 5:25:55 PM] |

If you look in the FMs, you'd read that it's printed at the very beginning of the BOINC client message log. Windows 7 for instance it's something like C:\ProgramData\BOINC or in the user app data area.
Note that depending on what OS, the file might actually reside elsewhere. Linux Ubuntu has it in /etc/boinc-client. --//-- |

The config file has to be read in via the advanced menu, or client needs restarting. Clear the local prefs [Clear button], to be sure there are no latent conflicts between web and local prefs and ensure the client processor value is set to 100%.
Else, don't know. --//-- |

Care to share the specs of that monster? Presuming it's a super micro board. Unless EVGA is coming out with a 4P board.
