I have been running BOINC last month and I was connected only to the WCG project. I used to have about 10 tasks downloaded at once. If I was finishing 4 tasks one day I usually downloaded the same number.
----------------------------------------In the beginning of this month I started using GridRepublic to share my resources with even more projects. However, I stopped getting new tasks from WCG. I've reset the project a couple of times which resulted in re-downloading the same tasks, but no new ones. I've disconnected BOINC from the GridRepublic account manager, nothing happened. I actually added WCG to my GridRepublic projects, nothing happened. How can I proceed to find the source of this problem? [Edit 4 times, last edit by Alex Lazar at Nov 16, 2011 9:56:03 PM] |

could be one of a few things, may be simple resource sharing settings, or it may be something else. On the projects tab of the BOINC client, what resource share does it say WCG has, and what does it say for other projects ? Also does it say anything under status row on the same page ?It's ok if it says communication deferred and some number, but make sure it doesn't say something like won't get new tasks
In the messages tab of BOINC client, what does the message say when it connects to WCG ? you should see something like this : 11/10/2011 11:56:34 PM World Community Grid Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 11/10/2011 11:56:34 PM World Community Grid Reporting 1 completed tasks, requesting new tasks for CPU 11/10/2011 11:56:42 PM World Community Grid Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 11/10/2011 11:56:42 PM World Community Grid Message from server: No work sent 11/10/2011 11:56:42 PM World Community Grid Message from server: No work is available for Computing for Clean Water 11/10/2011 11:56:42 PM World Community Grid Message from server: No work is available for Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together - Phase 2 11/10/2011 11:56:42 PM World Community Grid Message from server: No work is available for Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together - Phase 2 (Type A) 11/10/2011 11:56:42 PM World Community Grid Message from server: Beta - Drug Search for Leishmaniasis is not available for your type of computer. 11/10/2011 11:56:42 PM World Community Grid Message from server: No work available for the applications you have selected. WCG does NOT have any tasks that run on the GPU, you have to request task for the CPU!

Hi Scribe,
----------------------------------------My settings explicitly say not to use GPU, but BOINC keeps asking for work for it. How can I fix this? Am I looking at the wrong setting? I've also checked "Use GPU never" in the Activity menu. Still asking for GPU tasks.

BOINC will still ask for tasks for the GPU, even if the project doesn't support this if you have GPU enabled, I don't know about whether or not it will ask if you disable GPU, as I've only run with GPUs since BOINC could support it.
I think the issue here is not that it's asking for GPU tasks, but either your debt, or your resource share. In the Projects tab, you will see a space for "Resource share" Make sure all projects have an equal share, or a share according to your wishes. If the computer had a bunch of WCG tasks when you attached to the other projects, it will create "debt" which means it calculates how much CPU time you devote to a project, and if say you have 4 projects at 25% each, it will crunch off what you have for WCG but not get new tasks until it's somewhat equalized out the other projects resource share. BOINC updates this about once every 24 hours, sometimes it can take a week or so to even out. You can test if it's a debt issue, by going to the Projects tab, setting all other projects to no new work, and then going to the Tasks tab and suspending all tasks, if WCG gets work then, it's a resource share or debt issue. |

Also, if you want to view your long term debt, you can go to the ProgramData/BOINC/ folder in your computer and open the file client_state.xml
----------------------------------------Search the document for long_term_debt, and you should see something like this:
there is an entry like this for each project you are running, if the long_term_debt is not 0.00000, it means you have crunched too much or too little of that project, and that BOINC is trying to even things out a bit. If you want to manually edit this, you can Exit BOINC, stop running applications, then make a copy of the file on your desktop or elsewhere in case you mess up. Then edit the file in the ProgramData/BOINC directory, and set the long_term_debts to 0.000000, don't worry about the short_term debts. Also towards the end of that file, there is a line that looks like this:
If you change the 1 to a 3, it should stop asking for GPU work:
When you restart BOINC, it will reread this file, and even things out. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 11, 2011 9:04:48 PM] |

Thanks everybody!
With a combination of resetting the long term debt and tuning the resource share on the account manager website, I got WCG to download and run tasks again. |
