AM hoping that the above will be researched soon in the very near furture.
It seems that I haven't heard of many Diabetes reasearch projects or a monopoly on them. Arthritis would deal with autoimmune diseases. Superbugs...the once curable bacterial infections that now resist the most powerful antibiotics that we have. And tuberculosis is still dangerous, especially the ones that resist treatment. Am grateful for WCG and everyone's contributions. Wasn't fully sure where to post. |

wabr101, I don't know whether your post went into the right Forum either,
but I'm glad you posted. There are immensely more we humans don't know yet than what we do know, and some "less fashionable" but nevertheless widespread and debilitating diseases surely needs some crunching done. As for diabetes, Denmark happens to be in the forefront with the medical company Novo Nordisk developing new medications all the time, just as Eli Lilly - their main competitor - does. These companies do a lot of research of course, but still, do they get to the root cause? Discovering the mechanism could put them out of work in that field, but so far their products are sorely needed, and we should be thankful for them. There should be lots of work for our CPUs and GPUs for the foreseeable future, and it should be nice to know if the diseases you mention are in some pipeline. They are all so important one by one, but we really need some new "penicillin" that can cope with the resistant bacteria - and soon! Where are you from wabr101? |

Although not (as far as I know) specifically targetting those particular diseases, I do believe that the knowledge of work HPF2 is building up, could go some way to providing more clues as to finding cures for these issues (as, could any "generalistic" type of research).
----------------------------------------I believe though, that if a research lab came to WCG with a proposal and it met WCG's strict criteria (about having all the results available in the Public Domain etc.), then I'm sure we'll be crunching those WU's at some point. So, the question is, if you (or anyone else), knows of a research lab who are looking into these diseases, and they need help with "number crunching", point them in the direction of WCG. ![]() |

Thank you for a good answer, gb009761.
Proteine folding may lead to broad based general knowledge as a base for specialized research. ... if a research lab came to WCG with a proposal and it met WCG's strict criteria (about having all the results available in the Public Domain etc.), then I'm sure we'll be crunching those WU's at some point. So, the question is, if you (or anyone else), knows of a research lab who are looking into these diseases, and they need help with "number crunching", point them in the direction of WCG. Do we have a write-up of these "strict criteria" which we can show potential researchers? |

I know that Rosetta at Home http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ has a Forum Thread about Diabetes in the Message Boards Cafe section but I do not know if they are researching Diabetes as part of the things they are doing. They used to be researching the PROCESS to do better research, improving the process of how pc research is done, I do not know what they are currently researching. I believe their info is also in the public domain. ![]() ![]() |

Have a look at the Submit a Proposal page. Thank you. I saved the link, and I'm going to think about who may fulfillthe criteria but might not have heard about us/WCG in buttercup country. ![]() |
