confused Run time vs. clock time

My computer donated 6 days of run time on a single day. Can anyone explain how that is possible? Thanks and regards.

Re: Run time vs. clock time

Hmm

maybe a task that took 6 days to finish was returned on that day thus WCG counted 6 days of runtime on a single day.

If your computer is a six-core machine it's simply normal. smile

But Falconet's explanation is correct too, so the real thing may be a combination of both reasons.
For example a quad-core computing 4-days of runtime per day and a few older WUs finally getting validated.

Re: Run time vs. clock time

It depends upon the tasks done and how many. Plus how many tasks get validated.

I have 87 days of total run time yet I joined sept 25 of this year. I haven't been donating all of my grid communiting time to wcg either. I also do climateprediction.net, ibercivis and milkyway@home.

So six days of run time in one day on a multicore comp is very possible.

Re: Run time vs. clock time

You did not tell us anything about your computer(s).

I did 24 days this week. I have WCG on 1 dual core, 2 hyper threaded quads and one hyper Atom. So that is 20 cores or threads. The ATOM just does Clean Water. The rest do all WCG projects. Each machine has WCG at a 200 weight with other projects at 100. This is my way of adjusting for BOINC treating WCG as one project.

So, you see, it can get complex.

What ever hardware you have, however you configure it, your work is valued and appreciated.

Re: Run time vs. clock time

Thank you all for replying. That particular machine is an i7 Q720 @ 1.60GHz, 6GB memory laptop. It runs 8 tasks at the same time. On a previous day it was credited 8 days and 17 hours. It´s 100% dedicated to the Help Fight Childhood Cancer project. I have two more machines on WCG working on different projects.
