Dear all,
Could you please tell me how much data is downloaded and uploaded by BOINC per month (or week). I have limited internet traffic at work. So I would like to will i fit the limitations. Many thanks |

...it all depends on the project you choose, the number of CPUs you have, how long you leave the PC on....there is no one answer....

The Systems Requirement page in Help actually lists the one time science app. and *per-work-unit* amount of down and upload. For those with a bandwidth budget, BOINC can be set to stop transmitting when that has been used up, e.g. you can tell it to not exceed 1GB (1000 MB) per 7 days, or 1 day or whatever other combination of budget and time.

The real bandwidth eater is DDDT2. Some types (there are about 12 job sub-types) run an hour and less and use up to 20MB download each. C-Type mean run-time is about 3 hours, but if taking the hour long Sx, it's 240MB for the same time that CEP2 uses 26-29MB presently running 12 hours, per thread.... depends on how fast / slow a device is.
--//-- Note to self: Think I've just figured out something to add to the Dashboard, that might help crunchers judge better what's for them when having BW restrictions... would not include the one-time downloads of the science app and permanent setup files....ponders off. ![]() |
