You sent me an email that says my PC isn't participating anymore, but my PC thinks it is. I look at the "start here" questions and I can't make heads or tails of where to figure this out. This whole forum is very confusing.
I wish you had a useful "start here," one that didn't take a PhD in CompSci to figure out. |

Hi,
Not a Phd [in CompSci], but either someone with a different account hijacked your computer or you're in err thinking your computer AI-thinks it's still working for karentiede. Last returned result some 1551 hours ago [July 25]: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewCo...s%5B0%5D.value=karentiede If you open up BOINC Manager, advanced view and then open the Projects tab, it will tell the name for which your client is working. Do you maybe have a second member account, the most common cause of missing results. --//-- |

Hello karentiede,
Welcome to the forums. As SekeRob stated multiple member names is one to the top reasons people are not contributing. Another reason is their computer is working on a distributed computing project that is not part of World Community Grid. On your projects tab, are you participating in multiple projects? If yes, if you would copy your messages and post them we can see what your computer is working on. Let us know. Thanks. Tedi |

All I know is, my screen saver goes to the World Community Grid images. One PC, one user, no other networks, one login, work from home. This shouldn't be this complicated.

This
Statistics Last Updated: 9/28/11 12:05:32 (UTC) [6 hour(s) ago] is meaningless as everyone sees this updated every 12 hours. What we need you to check is the member name in the BOINC Manager under the projects tab of the advanced view. Olny from there we can dig further. But, if you hit the Statistics link on left of My Grid, then Statistics history, (follow the link) you can see for yourself. Similarly on My Grid > Result Status page (follow the link) you'd be able to see if there is current work assigned to karentiede. WCG and me too seem to think there's not, i.e your computer work is going to another account. --//-- |

OK, it's two accounts. Thx.
The other one's doing fine, and the letter didn't say anything about the downside to having an inactive account, or why I should do anything to delete the one that doesn't get used. If the site managers cared, they'd provide the information and guidance. Larger point is still valid: The email telling me this could be more helpful. It could say, "Perhaps you have two accounts?" and tell me where to find out. Sending me to the forums, with no guidance, is close to useless. The people who set this system up are too smart for the rest of us. Makes me reluctant to spread the word, because I certainly am not capable of helping anyone into the system if they don't get it themselves. |
