Hi, folks...
Brand-spanking-new to both the WCG and the forums. Hi there. :) So, I'm a bit surprised that this hasn't been covered someplace already-- or that it's not easier to find. I've been running SETI@home and ClimatePrediction.net tasks on my Mac for years now, and I'm running the most recent version of the BOINC manager -- same version number as in the WCG package. All the info I've seen on the site was a note talking about an additional instance of the manager starving the WCG project of resources. But I'd like to have just one instance installed. So, I started to download the WCG BOINC package, but realized it might clobber my current settings and projects. Then I tried to add my WCG projects to my current manager, and couldn't find a URL I could enter. So, what's the process for adding WCG projects so that they play nice with the current stuff? Thanks! ...Bob Bob West Thought Nozzle™ |

(Assuming you have already Joined WCG.)
----------------------------------------Go back to your original Boinc, you do not need a special WCG download. Attach to Project http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ as normal.

So, what's the process for adding WCG projects so that they play nice with the current stuff? Use your current BOINC clients, it's little point to change to the WCG-version, and in case your BOINC-client is later in some instances downgrading to a previous client gives unforseen problems... Don't have a Mac, but to add a new project it should be similar between platforms. So, to add WCG to your current client, in BOINC Manager, Advanced View, select the menu-choise "Tools" - "Add project or account Manager." Choose to "Add project" and hit Next. WCG should be one of the listed projects you can choose from, but in the off-chance it's not showing-up, you can use the URL http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ ![]() "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." |

D'OH!
I was thinking that the different WCG projects would have separate URLs. Never occurred to me that WCG itself was one big project, and to use the main URL. That got it done... Thanks, Murphy and Ingleside! ...Bob Bob West |

Welcome aboard, Bob.
----------------------------------------Since you're running Climate Prediction, you probably are interested in the Clean Energy Project Phase 2 here at WCG. If so, I want to make sure that you've noticed that it is the only WCG science that you aren't automatically signing on for when you add in WCG. Take a look at the Device Manager part of the WCG web page in your account. See the somewhat demanding system requirements for running CEP2, and if you wish to, specifically "opt in" by checking it off on the list of sciences. ![]() |

Hi, Kateiacy...
Thanks for the welcome. :) I've looked at CEP2, and I'm not sure if I can devote enough horsepower to it on my local machine. But it's definitely on my radar. Thanks! ...Bob Bob West |
