Hello,
I know you guys are aware of this, anyway, maybe this thread helps. Current team competitions do not stimulate the acquisition of users and/or hosts that are new to BOINC, or new to the WCG for that matter. This would not reward people moving project just because the competition. Current challenges are only about results and points ... and as such do not give any direct motivation to increase the maximal compute capacity of the WCG. Would that be worthwhile to implement? Any difficult? Many thanks and regards, Steffen |

.......... Current challenges are only about results and points ... and as such do not give any direct motivation to increase the maximal compute capacity of the WCG. ........ Your comment is only partially correct Steffen. Teams and team competition does not attract newcomers to WCG in a direct way as this is not really visible outside. You have to enter WCG first and then you have access to teams. Teams may have their own website. Through their website they may attract newcomers to WCG, but this is a voulountary and individual effort. Regarding compute power, teams competition in general do not have as en effect to increase the overall compute power of WCG (it is more of a reshuffling effect) but sometimes competition does have a real effect. If I take the XtremeSystems team case where we have sometimes challenges where we try to maximize the crunching power in terms of points over a week. XtremeSystems is a very large team so if there is a strong increase over a certain period of time it does have an impact. I remember when we tried to reach Team 2ch on the daily points score (we did not succeed) we did increase effectively the compute power over a period of time. ![]() |
