One man, one sailboat, Matt Rutherford has just managed to pass through the Arctic North West Passage... not an Amundsen experience, but valiant non the less, to go it alone.
----------------------------------------http://www.solotheamericas.org/ View his log and the amazing iceberg pictures. A sample: ![]() On icebergs, rather a shelf. Joekulsbugt at East Greenland just had a 2000 km square piece of ice break loose. That's 8 times larger than the 250 km square that got away from Petermann glazier some time last year (North west Greenland). Pieces of that are now lodged against the NewFoundland coast. The biggest is still 65 km square. Cruises are organized to get samples of this thousands years old ice. See the Video of the impression of sheer size. --//-- edit: A better link also showing the Iceberg as tracked from space. 10 months after it broke loose, it's traveled through a passage, into Baffin Bay, the full length of Greenland and on. Lodged up now, run a ground until it further breaks up. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 17, 2011 6:07:31 PM] |
