Hi all
----------------------------------------I am looking at getting a new dedicated folding box. I don't want to spend over $600 AUD and will be getting all the parts from www.umart.com.au I was looking at the AMD Phenom II X6 1100T (3.3GHz) CPU which is only $213.00 AUD which is awesome. I was wondering how is the performance of the above CPU in all of the WCG projects such as Help Conquer Cancer? Can someone build me a complete pc using the above cpu for under $600 from that site? A little over is ok. I'd like the pc to be as low on power as possible, but still highly effective in crunching numbers on the official WCG projects. I'm thinking 4 gig of ram will be fine (fastest please) and 500gig hd and a cheap but good motherboard and necessary power supply. Video can be built in as this box is CPU folding only. Stock cooler is fine as I am not planning on overclocking. I'll need a good case with heaps of fans but need it cheap also. I am folding for a cure! Thanks to all! If you can swing it, I would go with an i7-2600 (or K).
----------------------------------------The X6 has will run 6 WUs and has a TDP of 125 watts. The i7-2600 will run 8 WUs and has a TDP of 95 watts. You'll save around 700 watts + air conditioning load per day w/ the i7. The i7 will get you around 33% more points per day. Here's my list: i7-2600 $304 (or i7-2600K add $22) Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 $132 Antec NSK6582B w/ EarthWatts 430W PSU $121 WD5000AVDS $58.50 RAM 2x2GB-pick it $50 Total $665.40 ($687.50) Unfortunately, it's over your budget (whether it's a little or not is up to you). If you factor in the power savings and heat output reduction the $65 may not be too much. |

You could get one like this to save $$, unless you need the other features that z68 provides: AsRock H61M-S L1155 2xDDR3 SATA2 USB2.0 $53 Also, there are other 80+ power supplies on sale on your web site for much less than $100 such as the: SilverStone ST50F-ES 500W PSU 80+ $65 Good luck with your build ![]() |

Hello Matt how is down under .. for sure great ,
Very fast cpu. Cost and performance leaves intel in the dust. Think in change the stock CPU cooler though, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. could be ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler. MB: GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3 or ASUS Sabertooth 990FX HDD: any, I prefer Western Digital. MEM: 4Gb of DDR3 could be: Vengeance™ — 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMZ4GX3M2A2000C10) CASE: No need for a lot of fans, just use well ventilated CASE. I use INWIN, ANTEC or Cooler Master brand. PSU: any over 550W , Thermaltake, ANTEC, Corsair best regards JP |

Wait, the other person said the i7 was more powerful and also used less energy...

PSU: any over 550W , Thermaltake, ANTEC, Corsair I understood that Seroph4x is not going to invest to any high end GPU or CF/SLI configuration? As 2600K is not needing any more than 238 Watts then any (good) +300W PSU will do just fine (AMD X6 might require that 500W). Also Antec has some very good (NEO) and really bad (Truepower) PSUs.. Play it safe and get Corsair. edit. Wait, the other person said the i7 was more powerful and also used less energy... i5 2500K or i7 2600K. Depending on which one fits better to your budget.
to infinity and beyond
