Today many of the young murdered victims were buried in Norway.

Today forensic psychiatrists in Norway decided that the murderer
of 93 people in Oslo, Norway's capital, and at a political youth camp at the island of Utøya in the waters outside Oslo, on July 22, 2011, suffers from a schizophrenic psychosis which makes him unfit for a normal prison sentence. He shall instead be admitted to a compulsary mental health care facility. A prison term for life would probably have lasted 15-20 years - a compulsary mental health care admission carries no time limit. Norway Massacre - A Memorial to Norway's Fallen ![]() |

I am pretty sure that the governement did everything it could to avoid the court. The murderer made it clear that he wanted to make official and public declarations of why he acted this way.
----------------------------------------They did whatever they could, not to give him the possibility to have the court hearings being used by him as a channel to forward his opinions to the general public. Declaring him mad in a form or another (after having mass murdered people) is an easy thing, and he is probably insane in comparison to the behavior we consider normal. But insane people are very very intelligent in a way. By locking him quickly away in a hospital, we loose the opportunity to understand the real motivations and how he did reach the point of no return. Having this information can help us become more alert and detect in the early stages when someone around us behaves in a way that could degenerate to mass killings. There is another danger. If he is treated in a hospital, he can very well be declared sane again. What he did before, does not count as he was not responsible. In front of an expert panel he can demonstrate he is sane again, then he may leave and be free. This could happen in a relatively short time and not 20 or 30 years. With a strong life sentence he may be formally and legally locked for 30 years or more. I have absolutely no trust in all the "expert" psychiatrists around however famous they are. In Europe we have regular cases of people who committed terrible murders being freed by those "experts" and then after a short while committing again the same type of murder. And to conclude, it is so much comforting to say that someone that committed such terrible crimes can only be totally insane. Can you imagine the anxiety of a society that discovers that perfectly sane and intelligent people can plan and commit such horrors. Unfortunately I think that it my be the case here. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Hypernova at Dec 15, 2011 5:52:19 PM] |

Hypernova, I think the murderer is sane.
I think he is sane but lacks certain components in his brain such as - and most importantly: 1. A conscience - the moral and ethical GPS that tell us what is right and wrong. 2. The capability of feeling empathy. These people are often highly intelligent. They are extremely self centered. They do not do anything wrong. It is never their fault. And how dare you suggest otherwise! And they are able to manipulate so cleverly that people don't notice they are taken for a ride. And they behave in what is their own immediate interest. Always. And the Sun revolves around them. And if it is really bad, it turns out like this on July 22, 2011, in Oslo and on Utaøya. You cannot treat them, because they are not ill. The best you can hope for is to train them. I do not think - and I do not hope - any parole board in Norway will ever let him go. Robbing him of his selfproclaimed Übermensch position for life will be the correct punishment. And if Norwegian psychiatrists have to invent a diagnosis for pulling that verdict off, so be it. |

By what we read here in the press, the guy has multiple disorders in the xxxxxpath(ic) class [summed up as in-sane]. The Norwegians can rest assured that he wont ever walk the streets again or any other street on the planet, in freedom.

The murderer has a brain that is different from the norm.
----------------------------------------Whether is it a disease, disorder or a handicap can be discussed. When it comes to brain/mind/soul it gets difficult for everybody also for the experts/specialists/professionals as we don't talk an ingrown nail which is an obvious thing. But robbing him of the possibity to grandstand will be a punishment. And making sure he will never do it again is what society owes those who lost there loved ones - too many Norwegian parents will have the saddest Christmas of their lives. @ Hypernova: I would love if it was possible to predict who will act like this murderer. They walk around among us all the time everywhere with different levels of severity - they behave nicely and we never really notice until it's too late. The one who murdered many people in Liège, Belgium, a few days ago probably had a rudimentary conscience since he finished by killing himself. My Boss/Sjefen linked to this beautiful Norwegian Christmas hymn
- dealing with the four lights of Advent - even as the lyrics are given in Norwegian, I think all will understand Tenn Lys - Light Candles |
