More powah is not the same as being smarter than Watson.

Put your hands together, but not too wildly or sweat might splatter :D Crunching On. More powah coming up: I'm putting my hands together (sweat included) for the 8-core Bulldozer -- my budget for which is now in the pipe and coming in 5 by 5 . Not much powah there, but there you go from my end.; |

Eccelente.
The TFL stuck to 1.454 / year yesterday; and for the noon forecast... 1.454. Looks like a momentary resistance point [in the market place] --//-- |

Not much powah there, but there you go from my end.; Yeah I've saved up for it too, Im waiting to hear the REAL benchmarks, tired of all the rumors (and outright lies). But it is gonna be hard to beat SB (and then IVY) but I'm rooting for AMD! If they blow SB out of the water , I'll not only replace one I7 with a dozer, but build a 3rd machine. (of course I'll save the I7 motherboard and chip for a 4th machine as money permits).![]() |

Strange
---------------------------------------- :When I look at Boincstats it says: recent average credit = 46,325,946. In my understanding that's 46,325,946 / 100 / 1000 = 463 TFlops. Yet it states 231.6 TFlops over there (exactly half of 463). Then when I go to AllProjectStats it says: recent average credit = 46,813,842, would be 468 TFlops. Yet it states 613.3 TFlops. Seems like some different interpretations of TFlops. Or just plain mistakes?? |

It's when a number of months, maybe 1-1.5 years ago [someone/some group] decided to change the 100 credit per gflop to 200 credit per glop...
----------------------------------------Me, just going to stick to the WCG old standard until conversion, whatever conversion has taken place, else we've got to count not 700,000 but 1,400,000 points per TFL. [Read knreed last post on BOINC server work] The Berkeley wiki has been saying this 200/Gflop since quite a long time and now a 3rd party statsite has followed. Not heard how ''concerted'' this all is/was. --//-- edit: Not delved into the motivations, just when noticed at the time, brought this to the techs attention and briefly discussed the added hurdle in converting fully to BOINC credit on the website... sigh. OK, think we can announce "School's In". Midday stats hint at 550-ish TFL for the day, and 7 day mean is running again in the +500 TFL realm.
The retooling seems to have also been working on a record: We're nearing 1.5 TFL per CPU year contributed. [See Chart] On we crunch! --//-- P.S. Still 30C here in the shade, Sept. 12. Last rain Aug 15, about a hair thick. |

We are in the ZETTA realm. Everybody understands, easy to grab notion. But when we will have reached YOTTA that everybody also very well understands and feels, there is nothing after that. Once we will be at YOTTA level no more terms to make us grab what it means to make over 10 000 000 000 000 000 000 calculations. With YOTTA it is all clear. But after it is the unknown. The un-understandable, the un-graspable. We cannot live with that. I propose we call it WOTTA. WOTTA is 10 000 000 000 000 000 000 000. So easy and clear isn't it.
---------------------------------------- Btw if one day a quantum computer does really exist and crunches we will probably need WOTTA, XOTTA, GOTCHA. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Hypernova at Sep 12, 2011 9:27:56 PM] |

Zetta I knew about and expected, Yotta I had heard of and still hate the sound of. As for the quantum computer, they have developed a prototype that can correct more errors than it creates. They're well on the way to making a working system.

7-Day average closing in on 550 TFlops.
