Snurk saw fit to use 6 years and 20 years. Perhaps whatever reasoning was used for that decision will be used by WCG also.

...To me, the next logical badges are 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 year. That is in keeping with the roughly doubling of time between the levels. KWSN, while I highly respect your opinion, the 5, 10, 25,.. exactly do not sound like the next logical choice, but much more like (sorry, can't help it) a shrubbery. ... You are not "roughly doubling" the levels, you are are essentially rounding decimally. There is nothing wrong with that, but it is exactly not "roughly doubling". Other than the change from bronze to silver, which is a triple, the badges have always been doubling pretty precisely, with only minor rounding: 45d 90d (quarter year) 180d (half year) 36(0/5) (1 year) 2 years. In an IT environment like WCGrid, what is so wrong with continuing this essentially "binary" doubling, i.e., 4 years 8 years 16 years etc. I respect your position, but I do not get at all what part is logical on 5, 10, 25, etc.... Unfortunately, Jean Pierre is sending out some clear indications, that the above discussion is hypothetical, at least for the foreseeable future. Oh well, I take that to mean, the the project is not running out of work from a scientifical perspective. And that is certainly more important than a couple of silly badges. |

In I.T., when something gets to the "we'll do it when there's time" sate, then it'll never be done, because there's always something more important to do and resources are often (if not always) very limited. From JPs words, I see that this issue is in that state. Sad but understandable. I just hoped that maybe there was some free time in WCG staff hands now for this.
Or maybe, the rumor on the other thread can give us some kind of hope? ![]() |

If you feel like drudging through a ton of old posts, you will find that both this discussion and the certificate "rumor" are both old news and hasn't changed for quite some time. Both of these fit under the GPU wait and see category. We are told when there is time/resources, but not anything official until it happens.
