Hello,
----------------------------------------I have a 64-bit Win7 computer with an i7-975 3.33GHz processor, 8GB RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 processor. My WUs for this project always go from X CPU time remaining to X CPU Elapsed, remain at 0% completion, and have no error messages in the log. I have 3 other computers running WinXP or CentOS that have no problems. Has anybody else experienced this or is there another file that I can look at for error messages to help resolve this? Any help is gratefully appreciated. Thank you, David
David

Hello d_a_dempsey,
Some people have the CEP2 jobs fail after about 2 minutes setup time, when the second CEP2 program is supposed to start running. Could you give us more information? Lawrence |

I'd be happy to, if you tell me where to look. Is there an application-specific log besides the messages tab in the client?
----------------------------------------I may have racked up 10 years of computing time, but I'm relatively clueless about how the client does its work and manages it. Thanks, DAD

Hello d_a_dempsey,
It is dangerous (at least, difficult) to fiddle with the temporary work files for each job. Normally, we just use the files exported to the Results Status page. For a start, why don't you just post the first part of your Messages tab? Have you tried Uninstall/Reinstall WCG BOINC 6.10.58? Lawrence |

Lawrence,
----------------------------------------I'll get you the messages tab information. About the uninstall/reinstall: Are you asking me to detach/attach to the WCG project in my client, uninstall/reinstall BOINC 6.10.58, or to try both? WCG isn't the only project I crunch for on that computer, just the best (of course )Also, I am crunching other WCG project WUs without problem. Clean Water, Dengue, Conquer Cancer, Proteome Folding, all are completing fine on this machine. It is just Clean Energy - Phase 2 on this one computer that has issues. David

Are you using Leave Applications In Memory (LAIM)?
The checkpoints are far apart! - Boinc Manager, Advanced View, Advanced, Preferences, Processor Usage. |

@skgiven
----------------------------------------Yes, I leave applications in memory. This is a home computer and it sits unused for many hours at a time. I have it running while computer is in use, too. Unless I need to use a very intensive program, the client isn't closed or paused. @lawrence Here is the beginning of my messages tab: 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] Starting BOINC client version 6.10.58 for windows_x86_64 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] Libraries: libcurl/7.19.7 OpenSSL/0.9.8l zlib/1.2.3 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] Running under account David Dempsey 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] Processor: 8 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 975 @ 3.33GHz [Family 6 Model 26 Stepping 5] 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] Processor: 256.00 KB cache 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss htt tm pni ssse3 cx16 sse4_1 sse4_2 nx lm vmx tm2 popcnt pbe 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] OS: Microsoft Windows 7: x64 Edition, Service Pack 1, (06.01.7601.00) 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] Memory: 7.99 GB physical, 15.98 GB virtual 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] Disk: 686.07 GB total, 611.87 GB free 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] Local time is UTC -5 hours 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTX 260 (driver version 25936, CUDA version 3010, compute capability 1.3, 1763MB, 415 GFLOPS peak) 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [boincsimap] URL http://boincsimap.org/boincsimap/; Computer ID 164602; resource share 95 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [climateprediction.net] URL http://climateprediction.net/; Computer ID 1045353; resource share 75 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [SETI@home] URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID 5259783; resource share 15 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [GPUGRID] URL http://www.gpugrid.net/; Computer ID 61823; resource share 85 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [malariacontrol.net] URL http://www.malariacontrol.net/; Computer ID 151545; resource share 95 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [World Community Grid] URL http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID 1154070; resource share 135 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [climateprediction.net] General prefs: from climateprediction.net (last modified 29-Feb-2008 13:28:52) 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [climateprediction.net] Host location: none 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [climateprediction.net] General prefs: using your defaults 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] Reading preferences override file 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] Preferences: 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] max memory usage when active: 4091.58MB 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] max memory usage when idle: 7364.84MB 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] max disk usage: 100.00GB 22-Apr-2011 00:02:23 [---] (to change preferences, visit the web site of an attached project, or select Preferences in the Manager) 22-Apr-2011 00:03:59 [---] Not using a proxy

When you have a CEP2 task running find it's slot directory and look at the contents of the stderr file, stderr.txt. The slots directory is in c:\ProgramData\BOINC\slots, there will be numbered directories for all current running tasks. While a task is running the stderr.txt file is in use so it will have to be opened in something like notepad to view it's contents.
Thanks, armstrdj |

If I had to guess, I'd say it either doesn't like my graphics card or doesn't handle well the fact that I'm running GPUGRID on it. I've no knowledge about GPUGRID since it's nvidia-only, but generally using GPU for crunching can definitely interfere with using GPU for other things, so would higly recommend to try running CEP2 without screensaver/showing graphics. BTW, even if you're not crunching on GPU, using screensaver/showing graphics can use a significant fraction of CPU-resources, so it's better to not use BOINC as a screensaver at all. ![]() "I make so many mistakes.
