The GPUGrid recommended setting is to disable the screensaver. I also suggest you do so.
How many CPU tasks are you running simultaneously, how many are CEP2 and are you using other recommended GPUGrid settings? |

using other recommended GPUGrid settings? Just so not "everyone" needs to search for this info... It looks like GPUGRID recommends two things: 1: Using <report_results_immediately> 2: A small cache-setting. Anything forgotten? ![]() "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." |

Anything forgotten? To,1: Using <report_results_immediately> 2: A small cache-setting 3: Disable screen-saver I would add, Don't Install Boinc as a service (obviously not the case here) Use the swan_sync =0 environmental variable Free one cpu core/thread for every GPU (dual cards means free two cores) Increase fan speeds (EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner) Don't game and crunch Don't use SLI Add <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> to the cc_config.xml file On some operating systems its probably better to not have Boinc automatically start (Linux and servers), using a script with a delay is better. Crunch long tasks only if you have a big card (GTX260 is fine) - requires the 6.13app and thus a recent driver, which may be an issue for some (but probably not in this case). Then there is the usual crunching recommendations, Leave the system on Disable automatic shutdown/hibernate/suspend/sleep Set power configurations to keep Network, PCIE and Disks awake. |

Besides setting screensaver to NONE, is there a way to disable screensaver directly in BOINC client or for a specific project? For last 13 hours, it as been unset (from Windows point of view), but no success with CEP2.
----------------------------------------Not running as a service. Not hibernating, powering down or suspending. Exit client when I want to do heavy graphics work. DDO, Fallout3. Is set for switch between apps every 90 minutes. (CEP2 never switches) Was set for 100% of multiprocessor systesm. (Will try 90% - 1 thread) Is set to use at most 80% of CPU power. Just 1 GPU, set to use GPU while computer is in use. Using CUDA version 3010. What is swan_sync environment variable and how would I set it? What is SLI and how would I disable it or even check that I'm using it? GPUGrid (8 million+ points accumulated) and SETI (cuda) play fine together on this system and with my graphics card. Thanks for the tips, suggestions and handle holding, David

Is set to use at most 80% of CPU power I would suggest you use 100% CPU time, and less cores, rather than have the CPU stop and start all the time. When you say the tasks "remain at 0% completion" are you saying that they never complete/get reported, or is it just that Boinc displays zero % complete but the tasks run and complete? Check the FAQ's for swan_sync. How is your hard drive doing; do you have Indexing Service thrashing the drive? |

When you say the tasks "remain at 0% completion" are you saying that they never complete/get reported, or is it just that Boinc displays zero % complete but the tasks run and complete? ... How is your hard drive doing; do you have Indexing Service thrashing the drive? The task never completes/gets reported. The client shows the "To Completion" time counting down to 0:00, the "Elapsed" time climbs unceasingly, and "Progress" remains at 0.000% If the "To Completion" time is at 0:00 and I stop/restart the client, and the same work unit will show 0% progress, 0:00 elapsed, X:XX:XX to completion. The task will start running, time will accrue, time will decrement, no progress is made and BOINC will not switch away from the task. Virtually no hard drive activity. I don't run Google desktop and I don't have MS indexing my files, either.

Reset the project and then do a system restart:
----------------------------------------In Boinc Manager (Advanced View) Under the Projects Tab, Select No new tasks for World Community Grid. Finish any existing/running work, Click Reset Project You can Check the Messages Tab for progress. I suggest you Snooze/suspend tasks while doing this. After about 5min, do a system restart. If that does not sort it then try to install Boinc again, just over the existing installation. Use 6.10.60 from Berkeley. Probably better to be logged on with Administrative privileges when doing this. Per chance, do you have any antivirus software that might be preventing the tasks from starting? It's usually better to exclude the Boinc folders from the scan. You might also try to setup Firewall exceptions for Boinc. [Edit 1 times, last edit by skgiven at Apr 27, 2011 12:38:43 PM] |

Will give that a try. Installed latest Nvidia drivers and BOINC client last night, but without any change.
----------------------------------------With screen saver not set, no longer getting a stderrgfx.txt file, but nothing logged to stdout.txt and no change in previous post of output to stderr.txt. I am running a virus checker, but other WCG tasks start and complete with no problem. It will take a couple of hours to drain the queue. I'll post later with results. DAD

d_a_dempsey,
Can you also check the windows task manager when a CEP2 task is running and look for wcgrid_cep2_qchem_6.40_windows_intelx86 to check if the CPU time for this process is increasing? Seippel |

In Windows Task Manager select Processes, View, Select Colums, and tick CPU Time
You might also want to check if anything else is using substantial resources (I/O, Memory and CPU); Antivirus, Firewall, Backup, Defrag, Update... You could try closing anything and everything else that you don't need to run, or better still preventing them from starting up. |
