When I signed up last year, my rank was around 500,000. This number dropped rapidly and I eventually ended up just over 11,000 place recently. Now, each day, my ranking number goes up and is now at 12,266.
----------------------------------------What gives? Do we have a bunch of new really fast crunchers, or have existing crunchers picked up speed? Far as I can tell, my speed has not changed. Just curious as to why the reversal. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 24, 2011 2:31:20 AM] |

Far as I can tell, my speed has not changed. If you stand still you will lose ground. Mostly this is people upgrading their systems. |

May I ask, what set-up have you got?, as not long ago I also started slowing down and ended up going in reverse, that is, until I had to hand my 2 core machine back (it was a works machine, and I'd just been made redundant), and bought myself a quad. At that point, my rankings certainly started going in the right direction again.
----------------------------------------Also, if your machine is just crunching for part of the day, that can also have an effect, as well as starting to use it for heavy/gaming use etc. Always keep in mind, that, even just 1 result a week is important to the scientists - at least you're helping out in what ever little/large way you can, and it's that which really counts , the points/badges are there just for fun ![]() ![]() |

I am running an Athlon X6, laptop with Intel Duo Core, and a Mac Mini with an Intel Duo Core. Generating around 18K-20K points per day.
----------------------------------------All 3 machines are crunching 24x7, except when Microsoft decides to reboot one of my machines for an urgent upgrade (despite not selecting this option). Of course the rankings only make it more interesting. It was really fun at first when I would drop 20K ranks in one day. Perhaps going backwards is actually more interesting that going forward! Its all good! [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 24, 2011 3:45:57 AM] |

Well, I wouldn't have thought with 3 machines you'd have been going backwards in the rankings...
----------------------------------------Have you just recently changed projects - perhaps from a zero redundancy one, to one where there are 2 (or more) copies being sent out - i.e., HPF2, and thus, a lot of your WU's are in the PV jail? If you haven't already, it might be worth just checking as to what's happening with the results from each of your machines. ![]() |

My rank is in the hundreds of thousands, but the rank of my team (Virginia) is close to 5,000

Now, each day, my ranking number goes up and is now at 12,266 According to BoincStats you have improved over 1550 spots in the last 30 days. Now BoincStats and WCG stats are not totally in harmony, but they both will follow the same trend. BoincStats is also reporting that you are the lowest rank that you have ever been, suggesting that you have not backed up in ranking. Cheer up. |

You can check back over weeks and months to see what your contribution was at WCG.

For years I was just running an old P4. In the last year I have added a dual laptop and a quad PC.
----------------------------------------My quad, in 4 months, has done more than my old P4 has in 6 years. Patrick ![]() |

Sorry John, are you sure you're not comparing your position based on WCG-points and position based on BOINC-credits.
On WCG-points you're a bit lower, because there are thousands of crunchers within the WCG-stats with old UD-points never transferred to BOINC-credits or exported to stats xml-files. ![]() As you can see in the picture above: Steady on your way to position number 1 ![]() |
