Re: integer vs floating point + ubuntu boinc installation

hi,

Two answers:

1. It is thought that Linux is better at integers, at least the HCC science is pretty much integer only and runs on a 64 bit platform twice as fast as on a Windows 64 bit.

2. The Synaptic repository copy, at least for Ubuntu 10.10 and 10.04 is at version 6.10.58. Read that it better integrates in the OS. Got no complaints at all. If you look in the Start Here FAQ Index, I just happened to add a sub-topic on installing from Synaptic, at bottom: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...read,4925_offset,0#117237 . It's 3 parts!

thxs i think ill stick with local install then as its easier also i fold on a virtual machine so security isn't that important and i might be moving to fedora depends on benchmarks results from boinc as hardinfo seems to give better FPU results on fedora
