World Community Grid has multiple levels of security that are used to protect the volunteers. One of these is the use of a secret application signing key that is used to digitally sign (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_signature) the research applications so that the client can verify that the applications were officially released by the World Community Grid. It is a standard practice to periodically update the keys used in this verification process. As a result we are updating our application signing keys.
----------------------------------------Users do not need to take any action. The process should occur seamlessly. The next time your computer connects to World Community Grid it will download the new public key. The new public key has been signed with the previous key and your computer will verify that signature. Following that, your computer will download a new copy of the research applications that have been signed with the new private key and verify them. All of this will occur automatically without any user intervention required. The versions of the applications signed with the new key are all labeled 6.40. Thank you for your continued support of World Community Grid. [Edit 1 times, last edit by knreed at Mar 1, 2011 12:02:12 PM] |
