Re: Inconclusive WUs

It continues to be, however trustworthy your system is, that periodically a number of jobs for a Zero Redundant (Quorum 1) science are verified by a wingman. If there one or more bad/invalid jobs, that sequence is also kicked off and up to 15-20 tasks of that science will require checking by a wingman that is assigned prior (so a Pending Validation state can show), or afterwards, then displayed on the Result Status page as Inconclusive.

Also, when a pair cannot agree i.e. both Inconclusive, a 3rd task copy is send out and then usually one of the first 2 is declared invalid.

So, "Anyone else having problems?": No, it's in 99.99% of the cases your computer having one or it being checked for reliability.

Crunching On.

edit: PS, if your computer has been on for a long time, days, and the situation persists... do a controlled system restart.

Re: Inconclusive WUs

I'm used to seeing the occasional Inconclusive with Water too. Being a quorum of 1, that's normal. Today however, I've started having a run where every Water WU goes Inconclusive. It may just be the luck of the WUs or maybe not. It is weird though. The machine involved was rebooted within the last 48 hours (if not 24) resulting from a Windows Update. There was another Windows Update today that did not reqire a reboot and that was prior to this run of consecutive Inconclusives. Not that there is necessarily a connection but it is the only "different" event today. Other projects are fine on this machine. I'm rebooting it now and will see if that just happens to change the situation.

Edit: Well, no more Inconclusives since I rebooted. Possibly conincidental again but I doubt it. Only time I've seen this with Water though.

Re: Inconclusive WUs

Since I switched over to running C4CW a few days back, I have had a 1.6% "inconclusive" and this has resulted in about 43 compute hours lost. Small percentage but still a bit irritating. 2 of these were on Linux (Ubuntu) machines and the other 8 were on Windows (XP, Vista and Win 7) Quads and Core 2 Duo. Is this just considered acceptable losses?

Edit>Update Now there are 12 inconclusives adding more to the wasted work pile:

Re: Inconclusive WUs

The Inconclusives are just normal and in virtually all cases, will become valid. It's better to have the system check/verify that the results which are being returned are valid on a random sample, rather than potentially invalid results slipping through the net at this stage and causing issues further down the line. This is particularly so with Zero Redundancy projects (such as C4CW).

Inconclusive tasks are not lost hours. The tasks will be vetted and more than likely validated subsequently. Testing is a requirement, and not done randomly, it is performed according to a validation system and validates the work units, your computer and the overall system.
