this is new, first time in 2 years of BOINCing, and on this new iMac since Nov. 2010 - I've changed nothing, BOINC is not running any more tasks than usual, not doing anything else with the computer but web surfing - now I see all work was suspended 5 hours ago for nor reason I can see - I provided the maximum amount of power and work to BOINC that I could and don't use the computer for much of anything else except web/email - so what's going on? (I spent the last half hour searching this site for an answer but got nowhere - BTW, just in case the temp was too high, I downloaded/unpacked SMC Fan Control, and it appears in apps, but clicking on it does nothing) - iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core i3 4GB memory OS X 10.6.6 - thanks for any help getting me back to work!

OK, well, duh, I quit and restarted BOINC and all tasks have restarted (don't ask me why I didn't do this before I posted here because I don't know, or rather, it's been a long day and I'm at my stupidest right now, and that's saying something...) -
----------------------------------------But I'd like to know: I lost 5+ hours of computing before I noticed it; was this a glitch in BOINC, or was something really going on with my computer? (I'm trusting this smilie is one of red-faced embarrassment)![]() |

Plz refer to this FAQ "CPU usage too high" to get rid of these interruptions.
When booting in the wild and running for instance Clean Energy, then yes, you can loose many hours of progress on a multi-core system. The intervals that progress is saved can be hours apart. See the Checkpoint FAQ to learn more on how to avoid that for the most part. Not to be read when having lesser smart moments :>) --//-- |

Thanks very much, SekeRob. I found the "Problems with 6.10.36" thread and set my "While processor usage is less than" to 0 percent - it had been the default 25%. As far as the Checkpoint FAQ goes, I don't think I'll ever be not stupid enough to comprehend. Like I don't have a clue what "booting in the wild" is. But sometimes ignorance is indeed bliss.
