I had a problem with my Pluto host. In an effort to upgrade some components and speed the machine my HDD died definitively. It was a Velociraptor 300GB. I immediately received a new one under warranty but I had to reinstall everything. As a result I have now an additional Pluto host. It is the same machine but now seen as a new host.
----------------------------------------Any chance to fuse the two Pluto host accounts ? Unfortunately the tasks that were in the 3 day cache are lost as I had to dump the HDD. I am sorry for the wingmans that could end up waiting longer. But this was an unexpected situation. ![]() Ooops, missed the thread below on this same problem. Answer is: no possible ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Hypernova at Jan 25, 2011 9:15:25 PM] |

Just keep a backup copy the BOINC data_dir of all your devices. Next time this mishaps, restore the Data_dir, install BOINC again, pointing to the place you put the data_dir and the device should be retained. The only thing going lost is the results since the client and server are out of sync with their contact counters. I've done this on my lappie going from XP to Vista to W7 and the device is still the same, now going 4.5 years. The one thing to ensure is that the device retains the same network name.

For Hypernova, would he be ready to restart and expand his dormant-ish basement farm... a celestial body finally captured by Hubble. It's preliminary name is P4, revolving around Pluto.

At 4.4 to 7.3 billion km distance from the sun in an orbit taking 248 years, getting a couple of billion km closer in the past 124 years... going from 33 Kelvin to 55 Kelvin it's still frippin cold.
