Long time cruncher first time poster.

Have the first of 2 new machines added to my list of devices.

All base features except the processor was bumped up to the Xeon X3440 giving each system 2.53ghz X 8 threads.

Their sole mission is to crunch and crush cancer.

I chose this as it seemed to be the most threads for the buck.

Currently on the first system I'm running ubuntu. Is there a recommended OS to run that is light weight, supports BOINC client, and maximize the systems ability to crunch?

Welcome to the forum's mrsarge - I hope you enjoy posting here biggrin

As to your question, I'll leave that for someone who's got far more knowledge than I on ubuntu.

There are some interesting threads about which Linux is best. If you have the time take a look at them:

Best linux package to use?

Which Linux is best?

All votes have been counted and Linux it is for Clean Water!

Re: Long time cruncher first time poster.

Congratulations on the new crunching machines! 64-bit Ubuntu should be a great choice for efficient crunching.
