I'm sure this question has been answered before, however I can't seem to find an answer.
----------------------------------------Problem: I have 2 computers which I would like to assign to run different projects; i.e. perhaps clean water on one and cancer on the other. Every time I attempt to change the work I want to do on one computer it changes the job on both machines. Question: How do I set the machines to do different job? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. ![]() ![]() "Everything in moderation, including moderation" -- Mark Twain |

You need to create two separate "Device Profiles" (regardless of name, say "home" and "work"), then use the My Grid > Device Manager section, click on your devices, and there will be a pulldown for which profile you want that machine to use.
More here: Device Profiles or search the boards for "device+profiles" best, -jeff |

1. In your My Grid ... go to Device profiles ... click on one of the machines and change the name of the profile you want to use from the drop down list then click Save.
2. Now go back to Device manager and instead of clicking on the Device name click on the profile next to it ... this is where you change the projects you want to run on the machine you worked with in step 1. If you don't set specific profiles for both machines make sure the new profile does not have the "Set as Default" checked or else your second machine, which you did not make a specifc profile for will use the new one also. |

osugrad, it is better to run 2 task types on each system than one type on one system and another task type on another system.

They tend to be slightly more efficient (faster) as they do not stress the CPU in the same way (on multi-core CPU's).
It prevents outages caused by runaway failures; if you just run one task type and they start to fail, continuously, you stop picking up new work. This can happen very quickly, tasks can fail in 1sec, and after a few minutes, you will not get any new work for 24h. Also, sometimes tasks are not available, so if you don't have another task type, your cache will empty and you will run out of work. Obviously DDDT2 but sometimes other tasks - between batches. It's probably better for the servers too, more likely that tasks on your list will be available so it reduces requests. |

First off, a belated Thank You to Jeffop & Snow Crash for the help in solving my original problem. With your/their kind help I was able to get everything working as desired.
---------------------------------------- As for the problem alluded to by skgiven I have NEVER experienced anything even remotely close to the potential problem mentioned. At one point I was running the same project on both cores of both computers and can't remember having more than one "error" WU returned and not even sure if it was either of these two current computers. May have been my old single-core machine. Presently I'm running "Clean Water" on one machine and "Help Conquer Cancer" on the other. Both computers are also checked to accept "other" work if none of the primary jobs are available. In addition I will accept work, as available, for all of the Intermittent Projects. I also accept any Beta WUs available on both machines. (Just finished one for Clean Energy-Phase 2 on the "Cancer" machine.) So far, everything is running exactly as it should, in fact the jobs seem to be running faster now that I'm running different primary projects on the two machines. I've probably found a better "work match" for each computer; at least it would seem so. (There is a difference in processor speed & RAM between the two units. Slight, but still enough difference that might make a difference in WU processing.)) If there should be a problem such as "skgiven" described at some future point I'll report that back to our fellow crunchers. However for now everything seems to be just fine and running at my personal best rate yet. ![]() ![]() ![]() "Everything in moderation, including moderation" -- Mark Twain |
