Hi all,
----------------------------------------I have observed that atleast on 6.10.58 on both GNU/Linux Debian as well as on Windows XP, there is quite a bit of time lag when showing checkpoints after BOINC has been started. BOINC is set to start whenever either of the OSes start. A typical transcript of message log being given below :-
This is the same irrespective whether it in Windows XP or its Debian. Both places the same release. Is this right, I am asking as one can see as the first checkpoint starts it takes anywhere between 10-15 mins for the next checkpoint to log which is good. Can we expect any improvement in the checkpointing mechanism in 6.12.x series ? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 25, 2010 8:09:59 PM] |

I don't think it the version of boinc that is going to help this. It's the application, I believe. |

Thank you brinktastee, the output I gave was from HCC i.e. help conquer cancer, while it was nice of you to share about CEP2 as well, that data was from the Help Conquer Cancer.
----------------------------------------What I am guessing is that its the science application (which is downloaded in the beginning when you attach to the project from boinc) which is responsible for the checkpointing mechanism. As far as the minimum requirements for CEP2 are concerned, I fulfill all of the those requirements (and exceed them somewhat). If the above assessment is correct, then basically then its the science app. which needs to improve. Please correct me if my idea or/and logic is at fault. I was just making the point that 10-15 minutes is not that bad when you look at CEP2. ![]() What I am guessing is that its the science application (which is downloaded in the beginning when you attach to the project from boinc) which is responsible for the checkpointing mechanism. Yes you are correct about the science app. Coding is everything. ![]() If you go to "My Grid" and then click on "My Projects" and CEP2 is selected then you should sooner or later get a work unit. ![]() |
