Hi ,
I new to distributed computing. I am a member of the World Community Grid. But for fun, I am also a member of the Milkeyway project. Can I run these two projects on the same PC using one instance of BONIC ? Thanks. |

yes, you can attach to both projects. The default setting is that each project will have equal amount of time crunching, however you can change this. It will also switch between the 2 project every 60 mins (again that is the default setting).

If you have a GPU in your computer that is capable, you could also run Milkyway off of the video card while running both WCG and/or Milkyway off of the CPU.

If you have a GPU in your computer that is capable, you could also run Milkyway off of the video card while running both WCG and/or Milkyway off of the CPU. I now have three pretty new machines, an i5-520M, with ATI-Mobility Radeon HD4530;, an i7-840QM with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 560v, and an i7-920 with NVidia GeForce GT220. I am attached to a whole bunch of projects on these machines running BOINC which are not WCG projects. How do I determine if I can use GPU's on these projects? ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by mitrichr at Dec 5, 2010 9:49:18 PM] |

Hello mitrichr,
----------------------------------------You can read the brief descriptions in http://www.distributedcomputing.info/projects.html to see which projects use GPUs. You will have to check each project's website to discover which GPUs are compatible with their software. Lawrence [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 5, 2010 11:04:39 PM] |

Collatz, Milkyway, and DNETC all use nVidia and ATI I believe. GPU Grid, SETI, SETI BETA, Einstein are all nVidia only (don't quote me on that. I haven't kept up lately.) Each project has their own list of compatible cards and requirements. I have found that motherboard limitations and OS can be a factor on older cards working. For example, a GeForce 8400 with 128MB video may show up as 127MB available or may show up as 112 depending on the system it is in. Not a great card, but makes a big difference on whether you can use it at all or not. Better then nothing if you can use it.
