receiving more work than I'm requesting

On one of my machines, for the last two or three days I've been receiving more WUs than my cache setting would justify. Yesterday I set my cache down from 1.0 to 0.25 days, but I have continued to receive more WUs today so I have 36-48 hours of WUs downloaded.

Could this be an after effect of the DDDT2 WUs that had such overlong estimated times to completion?

What should I do to fix this? For the moment, in the BOINC manager I'm just setting WCG not to allow more tasks. I want to keep my cache safely under 2 days because this is a "reliable machine."

katelacy, by reducing your cache and also stopping more tasks from downloading whilst BOINC readjusts itself after the DCF received a bashing from the DDDT2 units, you're doing all the right things.

As to your machine dropping out of the reliable class, if it's been in there for quite some time, it won't make much difference (if any), if the odd WU was returned later than 2 days.

Re: receiving more work than I'm requesting

From http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=17160
*** Fast / Reliable clients are determined by the following:
A.The recent average of the length of time between when a result is assigned and the time that the result is reported as done by the client. This time must be less than 48 hours on average.
B.Known/regularly contributing clients should have the most recent 15 or so results checked, overall, must have been determined to be valid ++.

So yeah, what gb009761 said ;) One or two of my boxes did that too- I left them alone and they've pretty much gotten back on track.

Re: receiving more work than I'm requesting

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies, gb009761 and pramo!

gb009761's mention of DCF sent me researching the duration correction factor. I now understand it much better, and I learned that it can be manually reset by shutting down BOINC, editing the client_state.xml file, and restarting BOINC.

After changing duration correction factor to 1.0 in my client_state.xml and restarting BOINC, things seem to be back to normal. I allowed new work WCG work units in the BOINC manager, and I'm not being deluged with them.
