Hi all,
I'm new to using the BOINC agent and am a little confused with the Quorum 'settings'. I have finished a few jobs which are now stuck 'Pending Validation'...When i check the job, the quorum number is two, and shows the other 'half' of the job In Progress...the problem is that it isn't in progress on my machine...where is it? I wan it to finish as i have numerous jobs in limbo waiting for the second halves to be done!? I hope that made sense, and i hope someone can help with my confusion. Cheers, D. |

There are a number of ways to validate a WU result - the method you are experiencing involves a second cruncher. The server waits for the second cruncher to return their WU (carbon copy of yours), matches the two, and if it meets the criteria set by the Project scientists, becomes validated, and you get your credit.
Thats what a "Quorum of Two" referred to, two people crunching the same WU and comparing results. At present you are waiting for the other cruncher to finish theirs - could be a long or short wait, depending on how many WUs are in their local queue and the power of their machine. Sometimes hours, sometimes instant, sometimes weeks - so patience with it is the watchword. It is a little bemusing when you first come across this, but you quickly get used to it. Regards Zy |

...you could always do only the ones that have a quorum of one, clean water is one of those....

Welcome to the 'machine' and forum iswinterthur
----------------------------------------![]() Scribe mentions one of the 'quorum one' (or otherwise known as Zero Redundancy (ZR)) projects - others are FA@H and HFCC. You may find that, certainly in the initial stages of joining, even ZR projects will send you Work Units with a Quorum of 2 - that's just so that WCG can verify that your machine is/will be returning valid results to the scientists. Occasionally though, you may see an 'Inconclusive' result, and that's where a second copy is sent out after yours has been returned - again, just to check/validate/ensure that the results returned are valid (this happens to us all at various stages, so don't let it worry you). With multiple quorum results (HPF2, is, if I remember correctly, a quorum 15 project), usually the WU's are returned/validated within their 10 day deadline, but sometimes (very occasionally), these can take longer if a 'no reply' has been received from the other WCG cruncher. What is certain though, is that, at some point, your WU's will get validated and points added onto your totals. If you need any further information, please don't ever be afraid of asking, or even, checking the extensive FAQ's that exist ![]() ![]() |

Thank you for all that information! It's a bit clearer now...I just hadn't realised that my results were being verified by others as such. No problem - at least i'm not 'losing' any results.
Thanks again. D. |

Thanks again. D. Welcome to WCG and the wonderful world of crunching. Don't ever be bashful about asking questions. We were all "noobs" at one time. There are untold numbers of very sharp people here willing to help. If they can't help you fix it, it ain't broke. ![]()
