Appears to be intermittent. I had the same problems on and off all day re database not opening. Sometimes worked fine, sometimes not. Just did a manual update on one machine a few minutes ago and it went through and refilled ok. On current record the next one will probably fall over. Could be someone is working on it hence the changing results/symptoms

A new twist to this - I just went through a few requests for new WUs, four sessions over about 3 minutes. Each time it claimed a download had happened, but it had not.
----------------------------------------There is a possibility therefore that at the server end the alleged downloads maybe recorded to my machine, but they have not arrived, thus creating the classic BOINC Ghost WU saga. I am aware that in theory this cant happen due to the way downloads are handled at the server end, but in practice I've seen this before, principly at SETI. I certainly dont suggest its the same cause, not a clue what the latter maybe, but certainly something is wrong somewhere. So, did you check the Tasks tab and did any Clean Water get added with the timestamps of those assignment confirmations? You'd see them most probably if you set the Tasks selector to show all tasks and a small WCG miracle has happened once more, by design.

I had the beast set to show all WUs, not just those running, so I dont know what it was. There are four different time stamps, so four batches which would corrolate with the claimed ".....download successful" messages in BAM.
Its possible I had the colomn sort set so I did not immediately see them. I have other BOINC Projects running, principly Milkyway and DNETC on GPUs, so the BAM list can get long for twin 5970s. All appears to correlate now, so from that angle no dramas, all appears to be correctly documented. Just wierd ... maybe I did have a "bad hair day" and the colomn sort stopped me seeing them .... life goes on as they say :) Regards Zy |

The secret is that with Clean Water there is a seed table of 1 million. You only get it once per batch(es)/Target. Each time CW is assigned the server just flips a switch, ticks off the seed number on your client and on the server. WCG got a few more sciences here that do/did that.

Thats a neat idea, I can see how that mitigates one of BOINC Institutional problems, high network traffic passing send/receive for each individual WU as a data packet - and for Projects like Milkyway where GPUs can devour the WU in 25 seconds or less per GPU, thats a lot of network traffic - at the moment my main beast is uploading/downloading 4 x MW WUs every 100 seconds.
Those who overclock HD5970 GPUs to the brink will do that every 85 seconds or so. Learn something everyday as they say :) Regards Zy |
