Re: Hanging Clean Energy Project Workpackets

Are you adjusting settings locally via the preferances or globally via web site? if via web site, please clear local settings by going to advanced view, advanced menu, preferances and click the clear button. also need to update after changing web settings to get them transfered to computer.

11/17/2010 8:14:48 AM suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 10 %

with this set to 10% will almost garuntee no production, as sekerob suggested, set to 0

Re: Hanging Clean Energy Project Workpackets

I've set the changes to perferences via advanced view and web site. I'll change the 10% figure once I have the other issues resolved to up production once I've gotten the number of outstanding workpackets to come back down to four. Now if I change to 0, will this then open my laptop to a flood of work again? Or does some other preference step in to become the new perference item that keeps things in check?

I've still have had some work complete today and have had a communication or two. Still have 8 workpackets outstanding, so the preference change to 50% doesn't appear to be cutting down the outstanding workpackets below 8. Main issue of this post was the hanging work on the clean energy project workpacket - have had the laptop running good 6+ hours now (including a period where I was away for a few hours to take my Dad to the doctors, and the clean energy project packet is still at 1.7% complete like it was when things came up this morning. I guess so far any changes offered and made hasn't unhanged this workload up. It's still the only workpacket not making any progress of all the ones I have my laptop.

Still open to other suggestions.

I'll next post my log for new updated information. Thanks to all who have responded on this so far....

Re: Hanging Clean Energy Project Workpackets

Still no progress on this one. The one Clean Energy Project packet is still hanging after several days now. Still scratching my head on this one since all the other projects out on the worldcommunitygrid are doing fine on my laptop.

Besides the keeping the workload in memory that is in the profiles now, is there any other setting I need to set or change so that this workpacket can get up and running?

Re: Hanging Clean Energy Project Workpackets

11/17/2010 9:22:18 AM suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 10 %

AND

11/17/2010 2:31:17 PM Suspending computation - CPU usage is too high
11/17/2010 2:31:27 PM Resuming computation
11/17/2010 2:36:11 PM Suspending computation - CPU usage is too high
11/17/2010 2:36:21 PM Resuming computation

With a setting of 10% total chip usage anything over 1.25% per core will trigger suspend.

I've set the changes to perferences via advanced view and web site

use one or the other, once a change is made via advanced mode, web settings are ignored. to revert back to using web settings, clear prefs via advanced mode.

Still have 8 workpackets outstanding

outstanding as in "Ready to Start" or are there 8 "Running"

Just trying to get on the same page as you are to ensure I understand exactly and we are both talking the same way.

Re: Hanging Clean Energy Project Workpackets

Cleared those advanced preferences so that is out of the way. I changed the setting on the non-BOINC CPU to 0 a few days back in my web based settings. I'll let things go now for a few more days to see if this gets the one hanging clean energy project workpacket going, though its been hanging for 5 days now and hits its report deadline today in about 4 hours.

As for 8 packets, yes there are eight running at the same time - has been since I brought down the new BOINC.

Re: Hanging Clean Energy Project Workpackets

By the way - FYI, for my laptop, I'm now have the device manager setting on the web set to standard settings mode. I've had the device manager this way for a couple days now after finding my customize settings had been adjusted to the point where they were basically pretty much the same as the standard settings. Hope this bit of extra info helps everyone figure this situation out given I'm still scratch my head on it right now.

Re: Hanging Clean Energy Project Workpackets

Looks like clearing the advanced preferences have had one positive impact. With the most recent communication, it now looks like only four workpackets are running at the same time, and the others are waiting to run. As new communications occur, those waiting are kicking in, so by later today or Sunday I figure I'll be back to my four workpackets running at the same time mode again. So this issue is resolved at least. Thanks fredski on this last suggestion.

Still have the one Clean Energy Project workpacket hanging though, so any new ideas on what is needed to get this workpacket moving forward and running past 1.7% complete would be appreciated.

Re: Hanging Clean Energy Project Workpackets

My Clean Energy Project workpacket ran past its report deadline, so I aborted it for now. New workpacket is another project.

I'll close this forum issue for now. Hopefully when the next Clean Energy Project workpacket pops into my list of work being done on my laptop, it won't hang. Thanks for everyone who helped me to date on this issue
