Re: Beta CEP2 Mac and Linux test version 6.37

It didn't fix the problem with not receiving credit for the time spent on this project. I am running a beta where the elapsed time is 4 hours and 28 minutes and cpu time is 39 minutes. The other one is at elapsed time 4 hours 28 minutes cpu time 4 hours 12 minutes. The second one hasn't reached the end of job 02 yet it will soon show the huge discrepancy. I am running with the version of the kernel that I was having trouble with before (2.6.32-25-generic). I don't have trouble with kernel 2.6.32-24-generic with the production work units. The second one just reset its cpu time while I was typing this both now show huge loss of credit for the time spent crunching these workunits.

Re: Beta CEP2 Mac and Linux test version 6.37

I am dying to start the 2 betas that arrived on my dual core, but it had just started two CEP2's. I can't suspend them and leave them in memory while running the equally memory-hungry betas

Really? If you suspend them and linux ends up using some swap space, so what? Might cost, what, 1-2 secs all up on a slow machine, unless it ends up thrashing.

More importantly, for those of us who missed the earlier group, there's a whole pile of these betas appearing now!

Re: Beta CEP2 Mac and Linux test version 6.37

I seem to have a problem, not so much the CEP2 work units but the project itself.

Machine - Ubuntu 10.10 running BOINC 6.10.56
Network - ADSL measured on speedtest.net at 4.5Mbps download and 0.6Mbps upload. (very asymmetric)

The problem that I am having is that I cannot pick up any betas because the project requires a 128.00Kbps download speed and my machine has been measured at 46.28Kbps. I believe 4.5Mbps is greater than 46.28Kbps, but I could be wrong.

My Macs have been able to pick up Betas using the same network connection, I currently have 14 in various states, but my two big Linux boxes are starved.

Is there a way to force a recalculation of the net statistics? Is there an order of magnitude problem with the Linux network throughput statistics?

I too have had the same issue. Macs ok but the linux boxes get the "128k too slow" message.

Read any of the old threads about it. Most convenient fix, given this problem appears to be here to stay, is to write a script to edit the bwdown value in your client_state.xml file prior to starting boinc. Then just shut down boinc and restart it if/whenever your bwdown value drops too low.

Re: Beta CEP2 Mac and Linux test version 6.37

Setting "Run CEP2 without restrictions" to "yes" on the profiles for the Linux machines seems to override the bandwidth check on these betas as well as on CEP2.

Not so, I threw this flag a while back to get one WU per processor core rather than one per machine (that worked) but still the bandwidth thing persists.

The problem seems to have been introduced when the project went to other machines as well as Linux. Right around that same time I surpassed 2 years on this project and didn't care too much if I didn't get new WUs. Now I noticed again

Re: Beta CEP2 Mac and Linux test version 6.37

2 Beta units have finished, still a huge difference between actual runtime and recorded time. The units showed clock times of 12:50 and 12:52 both went over 12 hours. The recorded times were 3.60 hrs and 3.87 hrs, still showing the huge difference. Here is the log file of the one.

Re: Beta CEP2 Mac and Linux test version 6.37

I followed the hints in the old postings and increased my supposed bandwidth by an order of magnitude. Now I have 8 more betas running on my Linux boxen.

Thanks.
