dozens of partially run WU's

I understand that you'll have priorities bu having multiple WU's most clean energy project two start then others start such that on one 4 core i7 3.33 have about 144 hours of pertially done WU's which is really I guess a problem but just curious. I assume it is because you trust that machine ! biggrin biggrin

Re: dozens of partially run WU's

judson, what is your cache size? what is the "switch between application" time? The only reason that you are getting a lot of partial WU is because boinc believes that the WU may not finish before the deadline.

Having a lot of partial CEP2 is very bad since they have huge memory requirements.

This is also the domain of the BOINC client. WCG has no control over which work units get ran at which time outside of the deadline that they assign.

Re: dozens of partially run WU's

well that is the reason. you have a high cache setting. I suggest you lower your cache to a more reasonable amount. Is there any reason for a high cache? Like not always able to connect? If not try reducing your cache size, even just down to 6 days. You will also will need to suspend a few of the WUs until your cache is reduced.

The high switch may have an impact if you have WUs that have a short deadline, but based on your cache size, I doubt you have any.

anhhai,
No real reason for cache size other then at times project not avaliable and do not want to miss work units. Will reduce and see what happens. Thanks.

Hi: I have an I-7 with 8 GB of memory but I only get 1 CEP-P2 wu per machine at 1 time - I have changed my que to .01 .01 & only requesting wu from CEP-P2 & C4Cw. I hope this will give me more CEP-P2 wu's - I will see -

If the only reason is the non availability of project servers from time to time then by experience 3 days cache is large enough to cover all risks. smile

Re: dozens of partially run WU's

Hello Mark Reiss,
Hi: I have an I-7 with 8 GB of memory but I only get 1 CEP-P2 wu per machine at 1 time

The Device Profile page reached through My Grid - Device Manager has a check box. By default you will only get one CEP2 work unit per computer unless you select yes in the box allowing more than one.

Project Specific Settings

Run The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 without restrictions? [ Yes / No ]

The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 is limited on how many work units a computer can have downloaded at a time and what minimum bandwidth the computer must have in order to receive any work units. This setting will override those limits.

Re: dozens of partially run WU's

Judson, in time, through having an 8 day cache (even a 3 day cache), that machine will eventually drop out of the Reliable Returners class - and thus, will stop receiving Repair WU's. The reason - WU's are not being returned within 2 days.
