smile Re: Grid slowing down?!

Point taken on results v run time. It was just that results were easier to take the data from because they did require parsing of the times into an integer and I wasn't sure whether 1y = 365 or 365.25 so I took the easy way out.

I too have been hit with some of the larger more difficult work and this has caused my results on too get a bit lumpy when nothing is posted for about a week and then all the points are posted in the day the result is returned.

It was just a quick look at the rate of progress trying to answer the "how long to go" thought but couldn' find that thread.

RobSab you are very generous for something that was about 30 minutes work in excel.

If anyone wants the raw spreadsheet they can email me or create one yourself from the global stats page (its not rocket science).

Cheers, smile

Re: Grid slowing down?!

Sorry - I know this is off the subject for this topic, but I didn't want to start a new tread on the subject.

..create one yourself from the global stats page (its not rocket science)
- pulling data off a web site (HTML) and pasting it into a spreadsheet where you have have usable data as opposed to text can be a problem when you don't have a routine to convert the data. It is for me anyway.
Or am I missing something?
I will be pleased to hear to hear how you do it, and then capture the data myself.

Thnks

Re: Grid slowing down?!

RobSab

A brief history of time (or rather getting data to excel)

1. start with all the history

2. Select and Copy the table

3. Paste into a text editor (i use PSPad) (this will get rid off all the formatting inheritted from ie / firefox / browser of your choice

4. remove spaces from headings _ or - work

5. copy all data again from text editor

6. paste into first column of a new MS Excel spreadsheet

7. use Data->Text to Column using delimeted options and space as your delimeter

8. finish

Hope this helps - email \|/ if you need more help,

Cheers,

Re: Grid slowing down?!

If there are any supporters of this approach, then lets brainstorm it and comeup with one or two ideas to implement and test. This will help us resolve the speculation.

I think we need the data to show what is actually going on. I think what we need is snapshots of member data for the past several months. The snapshots should be once a week. With historical data, we could identify the 'sources' of churn.

Of course, the first question is whether historical data has been saved. If it does exist, if someone sent me csv files, I'd be willing to do the analysis and publish the results.
