Re: System Tray not Reporting Correct % Completed

My laptop is running Windows 7 and I'm experiencing the same thing as littlepeaks: the % displayed correctly before, but not after upgrading to 6.10.58.

Re: System Tray not Reporting Correct % Completed

It's a riddle why some get a percent in the system icontray when others don't. Wonder if a boot has been done in the intermediate... since upgrading. MS systray icons is a long standing problem area, many coding to it in all sorts of non-MS approved ways.

Of interest, how are the icons configured to show. Always, only when active etc?

Re: System Tray not Reporting Correct % Completed

Well - my laptop is dual-core. When I allowed BOINC to use both of them, the system tray hover would just say "2 tasks running." Now that I only have 1 task running at a time, it shows the % complete.

I'd have to check the icon configuration when I get home - I can tell you that the icon always shows, but not whether it's because it's configured to always show, or if Windows decides that it's always active.

Re: System Tray not Reporting Correct % Completed

Ah, that's an interesting point... it used to be that all tasks showed by science name and the percent progress, but was limited to X lines. That was definitely removed for multi-core devices. I'll try it through the local prefs on my duo and set the processors percent to 50% to just get 1 core.

Re: System Tray not Reporting Correct % Completed

Nope, can't get it to show a % with 1 core allowed on W7-32. Did find that the messages do change between 6.10 and 6.12. The 6.10 balloon says here that "client is processing tasks" and no network info.

In my case, it's cofigured as "only when active", but showing all the time, i.e. is never hidden.

Number of lines: I have a Core 2 duo, showing the progress of 2 tasks in the system tray balloon:

Regards,
Martin

Re: System Tray not Reporting Correct % Completed

Is this a service/protected operation install or a regular user... BOINC only starting when signing in? Something to know so we can integrate that bit into the SysTray FAQ.

Sorry for long time to reply -- can't post from work.

This is a regular user installation -- not a service. And it is on a Pentium 4 PC running Windows XP (one core, one process). The last version I had (last WCG downloaded version) did report the correct % completion on my PC, without opening BOINC manager.

No biggie --just wondered. BOINC is crunching the WUs just fine.

Re: System Tray not Reporting Correct % Completed

I'm on 64 bit W7. Hard to imagine that making a difference, but I did download this one from the BOINC website. The WCG icon is set to "show icon and notifications" which I guess is the equivalent of always show.

If the BOINC manager is visible in the task bar, then the % updates correctly. It also works if I switch to simple mode, regardless of whether it's visible in the task bar or minimized to the system tray.

As littlepeaks said, it's not a big deal, just something I noticed after the upgrade.

Re: System Tray not Reporting Correct % Completed

If minimized to the Startbar updates the percent and exiting the window, leaving the sysicon it's probable the equivalent to: Don't use cpu cycles and only show alerts. Just don't comprehend that here no percent at all is shown with the same version tested both the BOINC and the WCG distro 6.10.58, but only in service install. As said before, there are too many cores to fit and remember for my quad on Vista to only have seen the top 3 tasks with a %.

The FAQ shows the different messages of recent past: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,25929

Anyway, unless someone has a idea moment to know what makes this appear at all, I'll revert to add this thread to the watch list.

Re: System Tray not Reporting Correct % Completed

My observation:
if simple view is chosed, the systray balloon is reporting correct % completed, both wu. If changed to advance view no further progress is showing until opening BM, then the progress is refreshing, the same problem as littlepeaks has reported.
