Just a small comment on the BOINC screen saver for the Clean Water project - the big Computing for Clean Water text at the top of the screen does not move, and burns its image into your monitor if many consecutive WUs get processed. Would be nice if this could be fixed.
Thanks. |

Yes, when full screen, the top and bottom area could do that. Had a few candy requests when the project launched and on this one it might be preferable to have an option to keep the image at the default graph viewing size when launched from BINC Manager and have it bounce around.
----------------------------------------Would that suite you? Any seconds on that? edit: mind you, even when I sometimes run the BOINC screensaver to test, I do have it go blank after 5 minutes for the very burnin reason, but mostly to save energy and cycles for crunching.

A smaller bouncing graphic like HPF would be perfect. Thanks.

I used to get the screen saver on my ThinkPad, but I no longer get the image. I suspect this is related to the laptop and has nothing to do with the image. All of my desktops operate correctly.

You have a monitor that's still subject to burn-in? I thought they fixed that back in the mid 90s...

jnb170 - The above comment is meant for you. I have not seen any evidence of a burn-in on my PCs. But then I keep my displays powered off most of the time more to reduce power consumption than to prevent burn-in.

Seems that a 5 minute cut off time would seem to be the simplest answer for those who are worried about screen burn.
Personally, I think screen burn is largely mythical. I have used static screens for hours with different types of monitors and TV screens, without the slightest problem. |

While the 6.2.28 BOINC manager will switch the graphics between tasks every 10 minutes, if you are running only one type of task, you won't see any difference in the graphics. The newer versions of the BOINC manager (like 6.10.58) will periodically switch to its own built-in graphic showing the progress of running tasks alternating with project stats. No matter how static the task graphics are, there will be regular breaks to give your screen a rest. As an added plus, the amount of time spent in each mode is totally configurable. Check it out!
