System Idle Process

Hi there,
I have been running the program for a coupple of weeks now, and it has been working fine,

But 2 days ago i noticed that it has stoped at 33%,
I go into task manager and i see that it says cpu overall usage is 20%, WCGrid_Rosetta.exe is using 20% but System Idle Process is using 80%

This is stopping my computer from functioning right - It now slowes down some programs,

Do any of you know why System Idle Processes is using so much, and how i could reduce this,

I am not using HT, and use a AMD Athlon 1GHz,

Thanks in advance,
Rob

Re: System Idle Process

Hi rssfed23

Very Strange

It looks like you may have initiated the new CPU throttle feature in the agent

see this link here http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2683

Another possibility is spyware/malware as with the WCG agent running you should only get System Idle process running when the agent is returning results to the WCG. It is possible that some other application has been deposited onto your PC and is pretending to be the System Idle Process so that you don't spot what is really happening.

Try giving your PC a sweep with MS's Antispyware, Lavasofts's Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy (Using all 3 is not overkill) and see if they clear up the issue.

Either way post back with feedback I'm intrigued

Regards

Dave

Re: System Idle Process

Hello rssfed23,
I will add a third possibility to check. If you have a laptop, it is possible that it is running idle part of the time to avoid overheating.

Re: System Idle Process

If you are using a laptop, can you tell us what model it is? If in fact the Laptop reduces its processor speed and/or inserts extra idle cycles in response to higher temperatures, then you can probably make use of the throttle feature mentioned above to keep this from happening.

Re: System Idle Process

I loaded up the services control bit, and looked through them all, and i found one called winSTOP32FsGG, i stopped that and removed it and now everything is fine

Re: System Idle Process

Hi rssfed23

Winstop32 is a Trojan see website here http://labs.paretologic.com/spyware.aspx?remove=Backage

I would strongly suggest that you run at least one of the Antispyware packages I mentioned earlier (They are all free to download and use)

From these sites

Microsoft Antispyware http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
Adaware www.lavasoft.de
Spybot Search and Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

I have MS Antispyware guarding the gate + running on a daily schedule and run the other 2 applications at least once a week just to be sure.

You may find other nasties lurking on your PC that need tidying up.

All the best with the crunching

Regards
Dave
