I work for a school disctict in the technology department. Some teachers wanted to try running this in the class rooms and make a class project out of it.
So I tried it at home and it works great, have two machines working away right now. But at the school we are behind a firewall. The network engineer will never let me make any changes to the firewall. So changing the firewall to open ports is not an opition. Is there any way to get this to work? When I try to connect I get "unable to connect to grid server" probably because the firewall is blocking it. I have a lot of computers here I could use and make some nice processing power but I can't get it to work. Thanks Kevin |

I'm not sure, but give it another try. I think the servers were in maintenance mode this morning. I had problems connecting this morning as well (from home on two machines and at our church) but they seemed to start to connect again around Noon EST.

Somehow you've got to take the system admistrator to an expensive restraunt and convince him/her/it to provide a "pinhole" to the grid server. Its a snap to do and would be no security risk since all viruses are stopped at the server anyway! There is power in numbers and really, people DO respond to food! How about a quadrant-wide galactic campaign? Maybe just starting with a few school board meetings would be effective. After all, this is about education isn't it?
good luck, G- |
