I installed 6.10.58 on my WinXP machine and now I have two WCG icons in the system tray.
Both point to Boinc Manager windows- that is, I can click on them both and get two Boinc Manager windows open at the same time. Anything I should try to get rid of one of the tray links? Thanks |

Hi Robotic
----------------------------------------I have seen this on XP before but just after a new install. Usually if you just right click one and exit you will get rid of one. Sometimes it happens and just a rollover with the mouse will make it disappear. It should not reoccur after a restart. If you get two after a restart then it is a problem I have not seen. Not much help but that is what I have seen. ![]() ![]() |

Go into the StartUp folder on the menu and kill the shortcut there. Also in the BM on the Advanced Menu > Options, you can de-select "Run Manager at login". That would get rid of the extra copy.

@Dataman- the problem persists after restart, and mouse-over does not remove either of the icons (as I can click on either, of course).
----------------------------------------@Sekerob- I'll try one at a time and see how many BMgrs continue to run. Thanks! Edit- Ok, after deleting the link from the Startup folder in the Start bar the system now reboots with only one Boinc Manager icon in the system tray. Thanks to both of you for such prompt and helpful replies! [Edit 1 times, last edit by Robotic at Sep 29, 2010 6:40:27 PM] |

I have the same problem on Vista. I tried everything I could think of- reinstalling, un-checking duplicate BMgrs in Startup(it just adds another after a reboot). The only thing I can do is right-click and manually exit out of the extra system tray icon. Is there another thing I can try? Thanks, Dave

This time it worked- I had done that but then it came back. I must have done something wrong. Thanks.

Careful with msconfig. There can be 2 entries that have a 'BOINC client' title, one for the boincmgr.exe and the other for boinctray.exe. The last one must not be touched else you'll have BOINC mouse/keyboard detection problems.

After a computer restart, the second icon is back again. Msconfig shows the following now:
<checked> Boinc Client WCG "C:Program Files\BOINC\boincmgr.exe" /a/s <checked> Boinc Client WCG "C:Program Files\BOINC\boinctray.exe <checked> Boinc Client WCG "C:Program Files\BOINC\boincmgr.exe" /a/s <UNCHECKED> Boinc Client WCG "C:Program Files\BOINC\boincmgr.exe" /a/s Date disabled 10-12-2010 So, everytime I uncheck the extra boincmgr.exe on the msconfig startup tab, on reboot it just goes back to what it was before, with a second boincmgr listed as checked, and a third unchecked. Any ideas? Thanks, Dave |

Okay, I think I've fixed it this time. Maybe. I unchecked the "Run Manager at Login", then unchecked the second "boincmgr", and rebooted. It worked. Now, "Run Manager at Login" is checked again, but I looked at msconfig and it looks like it should. I rebooted a second time and the second icon didn't come back. Weird, but it worked.
