Hello,
I'm currently running BETA_ E200369_ 356_ A.24.C19H13N3OS.50.2.set1d06_ 1-- This tasks seems to be looping between 42% and 51%. If the task reaches about 51% it jumps back to 42% AND the time spend is reset to a much lower value. This has happened several times. Do I terminate this task or what else should I do? Kind regards, Jochen |

Hello joweiss,
??? I can only guess. Give it part of a day. If it does not progress after 6 or 8 hours, then abort it. Beta work units sometimes display stange behavior even if they are working correctly. It takes time to discover how a new project works. Lawrence |

What version of BOINC do you have?
What kind of computer and OS? Do you have the checkpoint_debug log flag set in cc_config.xml so it shows on the Messages tab when the application checkpoints? Is 'Leave apps in memory while suspended' checked in preferences on the disk and memory tab? Have you tried suspending then resuming the task? |

Hi All!
I've been experiencing the same with one of my computers in the following conditions: the BOINC client (I tried 6.10.56 and 6.10.58) is configured to suspend activity when the CPU load is more than 25% for other tasks. when the Beta task was suspended and then activated back, the advance (which was at 6%) was automatically set back to 4%. this as been reproduced many times (with the two Client vesions). I have changed the configuration in order to suspend the activity only when the CPU is loaded more than 70% and now that the task is not suspended anymore it goes normally. It is like the 'suspend' due to CPU activity was making the task returning to the last checkpoint... |

For CEP2 (this Beta) you are strongly recommended to set the "Leave Application in Memory when Pre-empted" (LAIM) to *On* else the science unloads every time your suspend rules kick in. The checkpoints are hours apart so when the client is paused you loose that progress with LAIM set.
----------------------------------------Like you, I've been upping the CPU Load percent from the default 25% and am now at 90% and still not noticing and seen it only kick in twice. The WCG technicians too tested and found this 25% default much too low and they let it run on their work machines at 75%. We'll see what WCG sets in the Device profiles when 6.10 client version is formally adopted.

maybe process wcgrid_beta*_windows_* just runs several sub-jobs inside the WU, and each is started in its own thread.
----------------------------------------there is no "restarting task.." message in the Messages log edit: removed "exe" word ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by rilian at Sep 22, 2010 1:45:54 PM] |

That would be visible in the Task Manager. There's 2 threads for the Windows version and 4 on Linux, but only ever one is doing the work which is wcgrid_beta11_qchem_6.25_windows_intelx86 in this beta. The WCG science apps have never had an exe extension under BOINC.
