Hi friends....
----------------------------------------Having difficulty with my I5...using Boinc 6.10.58. Want to set it not to ask WCG for GPU WU's--how can I do that since none of WCG's projects are GPU? ![]() |

Hi Blurf
----------------------------------------In order to turn off GPU scheduling you will need to make a change to a file in the BOINC data directory/folder. If you are not comfortable with doing that I think the best thing to do is ignore the message. If you are OK with that do the following: Find your BOINC Data folder by looking in the BOINC messages tab. Go to the beginning of the messages and look for the statement: Data directory: C:\WCG\Data or Data directory: /var/lib/boinc-client The examples are from my machines, first is Windows, second is Linux, so it will most likely be a different folder in yours. Look in the data directory/folder for the file named cc_config.xml Note: You didn't state your OS but if you are running Linux, and using the Package Manager disto you are going to have to be careful about Ownership. The Linux file is owned by root so you will have to do a root level gedit to change it. If there is not one open a new file with a text editor (notepad if Windows or gedit of Linux) and enter the following: <cc_config> <options> <no_gpus>1</no_gpus> </options> </cc_config> If there is one make a back up copy and then open it with a text editor and look for the <options> statement. Enter the following into the options section: <no_gpus>1</no_gpus> When you get done it should look like the new file example above. Note, be careful that you put it in the right section. After saving the file open the BOINC Manager, click "Advanced View" and go to the "Messages" tab. Then click on the top menu Advanced->Read config file After doing this check the messages to see if BOINC had a problem with the changes. It it did restore the original. Good Luck. Bill P

Never seen this in any 6.10 version on the activity menu, so guess my client is not enabled and it's not. The cc_config.xml has the <no_gpus>1</no_gpus> line.
----------------------------------------WCG for the present bounces clients 7 days when asking for GPU work, but that resets when the update button is hit.

Since it's windows-7, the easitest and best method if you don't want to use GPU on any project is to install BOINC as a service...

If BOINC would behave according theory it would be a more transparent experience. All my clients are service installed, but that does not make them to refrain from calling out and flip flopping the GPU scheduler in and out if the box is NOT ticked to use the GPU whilst computer is in use, so I ticked the box to end that endless log repeat. Much work to be done.
