Re: I made a new forum signature.

CandymanWCG, I see you're on the cusp of emerging from the darkness into a Bronze hue - and as there's been no evidence of a new project emerging in the very near future (which would've potentially sent you back into the 'darkness'), hopefully your globe will shine brightly for a long time to come smile

Indeed I am, gb009761 and you probably figured out why I'm so anxious about the signature refresh. And it only took me about a year and a half to get here... [:P] Oh well, on to the Silver then!

By the way today too I see the same thing: although in the signature ranking I already have my Bronze globe, my actual signature on the forum is not refreshed yet. Could it have anything to do with the link itself? Or maybe the forum not properly "talking" to the server hosting the images of these nice signatures?

I guess only SNURK can help answer that...

Thanks, branjo!

I see them updated.

Clearing your browser cache might help confused

After a while, it "stabilized" and seems to be OK, except for what I just mentioned earlier. Not sure it has to do with my browser either, I saw the same thing on a different forum where I use this signature (SETI@Home-Beta)...and a different browser (IE8).

Oh, SNURK, where art thou, SNURK? praying

You are right, it is affecting your signature. I still see it un-updated (in pre-Bronze age) even though my sig is updated since morning :-(

Edit to add: finally see your nice shiny globe, your precious :-)

Funny you should say that...I recently re-watched the entire LOR Extended edition. smile

Don't worry, by the looks of it (38.4Gflops!) you too will have your precious soon.

For me it's in that borderline state where it shows the right info, then switches back to the old sig, so I would still very much like to know what the heck is going on.

'Til SNURK will come up with the answer...crunch on! peace

Thanks for pitching in, but please read the posts carefully...It's not about the update itself. wink

Edit: by the way, for anyone reading this thread: I have already tried clearing my browser's cache and even Ctrl+F5-ed this sucker but as I am writing this I am back to looking at my still-to-be-updated signature... crying

Edit2: this behavior is becoming fascinating to me: it changes back and forth even between two refreshes... hypnotized

Re: I made a new forum signature.

Photobucket itself also has some fuzzy way of caching images, or delayed updating images. I have no idea how this works but I know it tends to show you not the newest version of an image, at least not straight away after it is overwritten with a new version. It had me fooled a couple of times when I was sure I uploaded a new image, but it kept giving me the old one on screen. A possible explanation could be that they have several different servers where the images are stored. When an image is uploaded it needs to replicate itself to the other servers one by one. When your browser requests the image from Photobucket their load balancer decides from which server you get it. This could explain why you are seeing old and new changing back and forth between refreshes. Just guessing..
Maybe Sekerob knows more about it.

The update script is set to run every day, so signatures should be updated daily. However for several different reasons it fails sometimes.

Re: I made a new forum signature.

Many thanks for that explanation, SNURK. It makes sense, at least to me. Much appreciated.

Dank je wel and great job with these signatures!

PS: noticed the grey little man-figure in the signature for people that are over 1 year but short of 6 years, any plans on implementing that in the ranking page too? Cheers!

CandymanWCG, if I remember correctly, SNURK originally had that included in the Rankings page, although it then looked a bit too cluttered... Perhaps SNURK will bring it back at some stage...
