If WCG sent an email to all those who no longer crunch maybe they could comeback.
----------------------------------------If the email contained recent successes it could almost certainly inspire some to comeback. Is this possible? ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz [Edit 1 times, last edit by Falconet at Aug 30, 2010 7:20:31 PM] |

They already do that Falconet. I have a username I no longer use (Dataman@BC) and I routinely get an email about every 3 months (not sure about the frequency) encouraging me to come back.

oh.
----------------------------------------I thought they stopped sending it after some time that's why I wrote this. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

I'm not sure if they stop at some point but DM@BC has not been use for over a year and I still get them.

I was having overheating and other problems with my former computer, so a stopped doing WCG and forgot all about it. When I got my new computer, I never thought of restarting WCG again until a few months ago. I don't know what reminded me, maybe an email?
Anyway, I hope they keep sending volunteers emails for a few years after they have become inactive. Sometimes there are reasons the cruncher stopped (as in my case) and those reasons disappear a few years later (as in my case). Getting an email every time a new project comes on line might stir up renewed interest. E.g., I would have been re-motivated by the current water project if I wasn't already motivated. I guess it's a fine line - I'm sure they don't want to annoy ex-volunteers by being too persistent. |
