I'd like to see a single admins only announcement of new work thread for all projects - including betas . It's not like there'd be hundreds of announcements per day to wade through, perhaps one or two per month. It keeps it all in one single easy to keep track of thread.
Whilst we're on the subject, now that Seks projected end date chart is no longer available it'd be nice if the admins could create a thread to provide monthly updates of expected finish dates for all active projects. Why should it ever have been left to a member of the community (albeit a CA) to keep crunchers informed with finger in the wind guesstimates of progress and end dates when the Techs have much more reliable info to work off? Nobody is expecting timed to the second predictions, but it should surely be pretty straightforward to estimate which quarter, or month any given project would run till. This info is probably already roughly known otherwise how would the techs be able to plan when to introduce new projects to take up the slack? |

Yup, if your calculations are wrong you can't blame me or the WCG staff. For that instead there's the little blue progress bar to visualize the estimated percent... it's been jittery recently on several sciences ;-)

I'd like to see a single admins only announcement of new work thread for all projects - including betas . [snip] I'll voice support for that idea, with the provision that it be only for intermittent work (whether in the intermittent classification of Device Profiles or not)... i.e. if there's steady work available for a task, nobody should care every time a new batch is fed to the hoppers. Beta tasks obviously fall under the classification of 'intermittent work'. I wouldn't count on being alerted by 'watched thread' emails, since those go out only once per day... if the announcement is made right after the arrival of your watched thread email(s), you won't find out about it for nearly 24 hours (or longer, if you don't check your email more than once/day). |
