Re: New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!...

I just finished up the last of the DDDT2 WUs that I had. I was able to pick up 209 WUs:

200 valid
2 Error
3 User Aborted
4 Invalid

... and was able to make it to the silver badge. Luck to you all.

Re: New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!...

Sadly I had to abort a bunch of jobs because of being without power for close to 4 days crying They just weren't going to finish on time.
I wish I could have just got an extention on the due date...
It seems none of them came back to me , only a couple _2 jobs.
I needed 60 more days worth to go Green So close and yet so far...
If it hadn't been for that stupid storm and Power Blackout I might have made it to Emerald .

That bites. Hope you folks on the east coast get things fixed up soon. Looks like cooler weather in the next few days for you. Guess I'll baby sit and just select this project and beta to see if I get lucky. Been on silver way to long while most of my other projects are at 5 years or close. Good luck on the east coast.

Re: New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!...

I wish that those of you who have already got the best badge left the rare WUs - in projects like this, in which WUs are so limited - for the others. The crunching wouldn't take many more days to complete and scientists wouldn't be disappointed - and well, the crunching power wouldn't be lost, but used in other projects. Why do some people want to complete 6 or 12 years of crunching (some examples that I read in this forum) in projects like this one, with so rare WUs? Let's be less egoists and help the helpers.

I just wish I could be more helpful for the cure of a disease that affects my country so much... The ones who live in other countries but haven't got the blue badge would be thankful as well, I'm sure.

Thank you!

Re: New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!...

Simply put, getting the science done is the primary goal. Badges are irrelevant and worrying over who is doing what is juvenile at best.

Yes, I understand it's frustrating when you are desperately pursuing work on an intermittent project. The work is there. Once this thing gets into full swing you'll be chocking on work.

I am not seeking massive amounts of work but neither am I willing to deselect what I consider a worthwhile project so someone else can pad their badge. To paraphrase what you said, I am helping the helpers and it appears to be you who are the egoist.

Everyone is helpful for any project chosen. Sure, badges are fun to show our accomplishments but in the end, it gets done. By you, me, and everyone else spending there own money and time to assist the scientist and WCG find possible cures. My hope is to see many cures found through WCG before my time is up.

I would say it is because some of us have enough threads running 24/7 in our homes that we need bigger goals then just the blue badge. I for one can crank out a blue badge in 27 days with just the hardware that is turned on in my home. This doesn't count the systems I have "borged". So, like many others here I have given myself a goal of 5 years run time in each project.

Re: New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!...

Most of us have set personal crunching goals for ourselves. ( juvenile or not...)
Many of us have only small limited resources to try to reach those goals.
Many people can only afford one or maybe two computers to crunch with but still we are doing the best we can with the little we have.
If ever I do reach my 2 years goal on Intermittent projects ,
I will be more than happy to be considerate enough to step aside and give others a chance to also reach their goals too... biggrin
