Re: New project???

Sounds more like politics than the need for a cure played. There are times I have to wonder if this phrase," there is no profits in cures" plays in any decision to fund projects. Crunching here at WCG makes me feel like I am really contributing to help our small planet. Sure it costs money to bring drugs to market. But the super profits the drug makers make, makes me wonder. Your situation kind of reminds me of the movie "Extraordinary Measures" with Harrison Ford. Keep plugging away. Can't wait to crunch your project. Thank you for your dedicated efforts.

Re: New project???

One of the recipients of the money is Help Defeat Cancer. Now I wonder, if that project ended like 3 years ago, would that mean that there is a phase 2 in the making, or what? confused

Well I hope to see at least the Malaria project started in the near future.

biggrin Re: New project???

Hi Falconet,

Yes, you are correct. Some of the money that Watson won on Jeopardy! will be donated to two different projects in the Olson lab at TSRI: 1) money to purchase compounds from FightAIDSatHome experiments (so that the best-ranked "candidates" can be assayed in test tubes), and 2) some funds for personnel and a server on which to store data, to help us jump-start a malaria project on World Community Grid. It's a bit too early for us to know all the logistical details yet (such as what % of our two proposals got funded, when the money will arrive, and how long it will take us to launch our new malaria project on World Community Grid). But the ball is now rolling. After a couple years of persistence, we finally get to start our AMFM project (AutoDocking Molecules to Fight Malaria)!!! We'll keep you posted.

Thank you very much for your support,
Alex Perryman, Ph.D.
