Hello Movieman , indeed and so true .., many thanks
Today marks the one-month anniversary since the cave-in cut off the miners escape route to the surface.... 'Don't give up,' plane crash survivors tell trapped miners . For months, the men waited in isolation, struggling to survive. They forced themselves to eat the flesh of dead friends to sustain themselves. The Uruguayan rugby players whose plane crashed in the Andes Mountains 38 years ago inspired the book and movie "Alive." On Saturday, four of them shared a message with the 33 miners who have been trapped underground in Chile for a month. "Don't give up," former rugby player Moncho Sabella said. "You have a marvelous team working for you." Video of the conversation released by the government showed trapped miner Luis Urzua looking back at him on a video-conference screen. "We thank you as a Chilean workers, and hope to be able to give you a hug later," he said. Sixteen people on the plane endured frigid temperatures and high altitudes for 72 days before rescuers found them. A dozen of the 45 passengers onboard died in the crash. Others later succumbed to their injuries..... |

Plan C for Chile mine rescue: Use oil drill
Hedging their bets, officials in Chile said on Sunday they will set up an oil drill as a third option to rescue the 33 miners trapped underground since August 5. The idea, which is Plan C, could be the fastest of the three options currently underway. However, the drill needs to be transported first from Iquique, a city in northern Chile, and then installed. The drill is expected to be up and running around the middle of September, Chilean government officials said in an electronic presentation given to CNN. Still, the estimated time it will take to rescue the workers has not changed, they said. Depending on ground conditions and the technology used, officials guess the workers will not be hauled above ground until November, or early December.... |

Prayers for strength and safety...for the miners certainly and for their friends and loved ones whose wait must seem an eternity.

Trapped in a Chilean mine Over a month ago, on August 5, 2010, the roof of the San Jose copper and gold mine collapsed, trapping 33 miners inside, 700 meters (2,300 ft) below ground near Copiapo, Chile. The fate of the miners was not immediately known - it took 17 days before a drill reached their refuge, discovering them alive and well. Rescue work began immediately, but even with several concurrent plans underway, the quickest likely rescue will still take two to three months. Until then, the 33 men will have to endure high temperatures and humidity in isolated conditions. A video link has been established, many relatives have set up camp nearby, and food, air, messages and supplies are delivered by several narrow boreholes. Fluorescent lights with timers are to be sent down to attempt to keep the men on a normal schedule by imitating day and night as they care for each other and assist in their own rescue. Once it reaches them, the diameter of the rescue borehole will be very narrow. so each miner will have to ensure they have a waistline of no more than 90 cm (35 in) to escape. (42 photos total) |

Oil drilling platform arrives at Chilean mine to aid in rescue
A large oil drilling platform arrived Thursday at the Chilean mine where 33 trapped miners are awaiting rescue. The oil platform is part of Plan C, the third operation to drill to reach the miners. Chilean mining officials have said they believe that drill will dig faster than the other drills currently at work. But they cautioned that the miners, trapped since August 5, still may not be rescued until December. "This was the most beautiful morning of my life," said Elizabet Segovia, the sister of one trapped miner. "It's hope for the boys. Let them build it and get it working quickly."... |
