Re: Join The International Team

On the F1 issue..no on other messages. It's because the original frives were removed and it doesn't like it. We've gone in a configured what's there and even tried filling all the slots with other drives. Doesn't matter, it just doesn't like it that the original drives were removed. So whenever there's a power outage it just sits there like a dumb sh!t till I go push F1.

On the IDE issue, it had an IDE in there before and I had no trouble at all getting it to recognise it and use it. And even now when it's booting it sees and recognizes it. But when it get's to the point of installing Server 2003....nothing. I'm gonna try a new CDROM. Maybe that's the problem.

Re: Join The International Team

Ok, have you tried to clear the CMOS? When changing hardware the BIOS may not like it and problems can in some cases occur. If you reset the bios settings and "load optimized defaults" for starters, maybe that will do the trick. It has helped me a lot of time when I had similar problems, but with RAM memory. (You may want to write down or take photos of your current BIOS setting first though :) )

Regardign the IDE problem. How far into the installation of Server 2003 does it work? Does it load the CD but it cannot recognize the harddrive in the installation? Or will the CD not load?

These types of problems are just terrible, I know, but one has to keep trying...

Re: Join The International Team

Hi acpartsman,

what I can tell you is
try to "load optimized defaults" or "clear CMOS"
could be the Jumpers (Master, Slave, CS)

devices are correctly in the bios?
also as you say could be a problem of the CD, try another CD Or
try another OS, you can use a Linux Live CD for testing.

as flodisar said, is to keep trying

PD:

Regardign the IDE problem. How far into the installation of Server 2003 does it work? Does it load the CD but it cannot recognize the harddrive in the installation? Or will the CD not load?

good questions

and sorry for my English

Re: Join The International Team

You're doing just fine with your English Alejandro.
The CD doesn't even start, that's why I'm thinking it may be the drive.
On the CMOS reset, I'm not sure if the IT guys tried that or not. I personally don't mes with anything that could make it stop working altogether.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Y'all have a great day cool

Re: Join The International Team

Damon, since the CD does not start, you can try to boot from USB-drive. I recently made a USB-drive bootable with Server 2003 and that worked like a charm on the servers I got (they do not even have a CD drive).

Check here for some tips: http://superuser.com/questions/64361/install-server-2003-from-usb

Then you won't need a CD-drive :=)

Good afternoon...Very good advice fro Leo and Alejandro. Damon...at least you know what questions to ask.. All you guys seem to be well beyond my level of understanding with PCs even though I use them daily on my job. I definitely appreciate those with a technical understanding.

PCs...can't live with em and can't live without em !!!!! smile

Thanks Chris!
You are right, PCs have become like women (can't live with em, and can't live without), as you say :)
