I am going to Washington for the Glenn Beck event on 8/28.The little County i live in is sending three buses full.I have never been to the Lincoln Memorial before so it should be fun.But so many are coming the bus we are on will have to stop three and a half miles from it so it will be a long walk-- Too bad the buses won't drop you off at the Franconia Metro rail station. You could take the Blue line right to the Smithsonian station and come out right on the east side of the Washington Monument. Going west from there is the WWII Memorial, Reflecting Pool (the waterfowl there LOVE goldfish - the crackers that is) and the Lincoln Memorial. Not a long walk at all - about four blocks worth. Also, you have the Vietnam and Korean memorials on the sides of the Reflecting Pool too. They said we have to get off at Pentagon City--The last time the metro was shut down due to to many people--But if we can we will ![]() |

Franconia is the south end of the line. Pentagon City is about six stops after that. If you can get on the blue line there at Pentagon City, Smithsonion is nine stops after that (train will say Largo - the other end of line). The Pentagon itself is the next stop and may be worth checking if you end up walking. The distance looks like it will be between the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetary. The Lincoln Memorial is basically across the river from there. I can't imagine everyone on the buses will be up to a long walk like that. Hopefully, you can get on the Metro. |
