Had to nuke my system so reinstalled. I changed the cc_config.xml file but still get the unsupported platform. Am running 6.10.17. Suggestions?

Did you restart the service too? http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28642 NB: For this option to take effect the client daemon/service has to be restarted! The commands to achieve that for Ubuntu from a terminal window are: sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client stop sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client start |

This is from my messages area Wed 28 Jul 2010 09:46:44 PM CDT Unrecognized tag in cc_config.xml: <cc_config> This is because your cc_config.xml is not setup correctly. It should look like the following: <cc_config> <log_flags> ...whichever log flags you wish to setup </log_flags> <options> ...whichever options you wish to setup </options> </cc_config> Using the cc_config info you posted earlier, I have modified it to how it should be formatted to work. <cc_config> <options> <alt_platform>i686-pc-linux-gnu</alt_platform> </options> <log_flags> <task>1</task> <file_xfer>1</file_xfer> <sched_ops>1</sched_ops> <cpu_sched>0</cpu_sched> <cpu_sched_debug>0</cpu_sched_debug> <rr_simulation>0</rr_simulation> <debt_debug>0</debt_debug> <task_debug>0</task_debug> <work_fetch_debug>0</work_fetch_debug> <unparsed_xml>0</unparsed_xml> <state_debug>0</state_debug> <file_xfer_debug>0</file_xfer_debug> <sched_op_debug>0</sched_op_debug> <http_debug>0</http_debug> <proxy_debug>0</proxy_debug> <time_debug>0</time_debug> <http_xfer_debug>0</http_xfer_debug> <benchmark_debug>0</benchmark_debug> <poll_debug>0</poll_debug> <guirpc_debug>0</guirpc_debug> <scrsave_debug>0</scrsave_debug> <app_msg_send>0</app_msg_send> <app_msg_receive>0</app_msg_receive> <mem_usage_debug>0</mem_usage_debug> <network_status_debug>0</network_status_debug> <checkpoint_debug>0</checkpoint_debug> </log_flags> </cc_config> |

If you don't care about any of the logging flags, and just want to get work on Ubuntu, you can use a really short cc_config.xml file like the following:
----------------------------------------<cc_config> <options> <alt_platform>i686-pc-linux-gnu</alt_platform> </options> </cc_config> One more question: You did install the 32-bit compatibility libraries also, didn't you? [Edit 1 times, last edit by BobCat13 at Jul 29, 2010 4:08:42 AM] |

OK, looks like BobCat13 has the format down... those [....] intended as just fillers to be replaced with real tags.
----------------------------------------1. Bearcat, what you made of the file is a total mess... the idea was to only copy the <alt_platform>i686-pc-linux-gnu</alt_platform> into the pre-existing file (opposed to Windows, the Linux BOINC installer does put a fully populated copy in place), so I've modified the FAQ esoteric17 linked too, to show a standard cc_config.xml with the 3 main log flags for those that just want to erase the lot and keep it simple i.e. for those who've never been working with this file before. 2. I've added in the Related Topics section with the missing 32 bit library FAQ link, an additional one to a wiki on the cc_config.xml setup. When toying around make sure not to change any ownerships (I found out the hard way), maybe add your user ID to the boinc group so you're able to do everything with the BOINC Manager. (mine would not auto-connect because the password file got un-shared). To summarize, re-read the FAQ which hopefully is now more KIS than before.

Thanks. I did not install the 32-bit libraries. I didn't have to on my prior install of ubuntu 64 so didn't think I needed to. Thanks again for all the help. Will give it a shot this weekend.
