Hy!
----------------------------------------I am a Linux user and I don't have experience using FreeBSD. I had a hard time installing the client, but now it works - almost. The problem is that I get the following error: "Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down. Scheduler request failed: peer certificate cannot be authenticated with known CA certificates" Info about the host: #uname -a FreeBSD **** 7.0-RELEASE-p11 FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE-p11 #0: Sun Mar 22 07:08:52 UTC 2009 root@i386-builder.daemonology.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386 #boinc_client --version 6.4.5 i686-pc-freebsd I don't know if there is a difference, but the server has 2 network cards, one with a real IP ( 193.***** ) and an internal one ( 172.17.0.1 ) Sorry if my question is answered already, but I didn't found the answer. One of these should help:
----------------------------------------http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=15682 http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=14222 They're under section 4L of the FAQ (https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,21501 ). Thank you for your quick answer.
I've put the certification file in the BOINC data directory ( /var/db/boinc-client ) and then restart the client, but it seems that not that was the problem and the server time/date is correct. I've looked at the certificate downloaded today from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/browser/trunk/.../ca-bundle.crt?format=raw but this is expired on 07/11/2009. That error may be a FreeBSD "thing". I'm using Fedora and CentOS and it worked on both of them.
----------------------------------------Maybe Sekerob can help? [Edit 1 times, last edit by pirogue at Jul 12, 2010 3:55:05 AM] |

Hi,
----------------------------------------What happens if you temporarily move the file out the data-dir and restart the client? Same message? If so, maybe your install/port-build is not looking in the data_dir, rather in the place where boinc and boincmgr are (old versions) or where FreeBSD stores other certificates (Ubuntu Lucid Lynx has them in /etc/ssl/certs/ somewhere? Visit previous discussions on FreeBSD what was said about this issue: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...7&submitbutton=Search The ca-bundle.crt contains multiple certificates. Look further in as I just did and you see several that do not expire until 2018 and 2034 i.e. the file you downloaded is valid AFA BOINC is concerned (it is as I just tested). Let us know as any new finding allows to further improve the FAQ.

I found a workaround ( after 6 hours of searching ): http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...24324_lastpage,yes#285806
But now I have an another problem :)) I don't know where i should put the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file. I tried in /usr/home/my_user/boinc/ and run the following command: boinc_client --dir /usr/home/my_user/boinc/ --allow_remote_gui_rpc --daemon but I can't connect. It worked when I installed from ports ( the file were located in /var/db/boinc-client I think ) Sorry for my questions, but I really want to run WCG on that machine. |

If you found the original problem solution, presume it's the dmarck post, then please confirm and I'll put an extra link in the FAQs. Then edit Opening Post and insert [RESOLVED]. The second FAQ [in piroque's reply] where Didactylos discusses this issue is a frequent reoccurring one and keeps coming back.
----------------------------------------The gui_rpc_auth.cfg belongs in the same data_dir from your message log or the path the x-linked entry refers to, in my Synaptic package case /etc/boinc-client/gui_rpc_auth.cfg . When changing the passwrd from a random hex 32 character value to something you can remember, you have to restart the core client. Then you should be able to connect. I've copied this file to all the clients so it's easy to not forget. Let us know. PS: Careful with the rights assignments :D edit: key ports to be open are 443 outwards for ssl/https transfer (only WCG) and 80 for regular traffic. Also BOINC uses on localhost port 31416 for comms between the different parts (core client , GUI, screensaver etc)

The thing is, that after compliation there wasn't a gui_rpc_auth.cfg file. I creted one, copyed in more directories where I toght that boinc will look, changed the users/groups, restart the client, but nothing.

You may just try to delete the gui_rpc files as it's only needed if you want to stop guests from hooking up, but am unsure how that works if wanting to connect from remote [Will test the implications sometime soon to find out on Linux and Windows and over remote]. The password for sure will then not autofill **. Principally, if you connect locally and type in 'localhost' as the device to connect to and leave the password blank, the client should autofill the field, at least it so does using the GUI.
----------------------------------------** There's a trick on this: When the BOINC gui_rpc passwords on all devices are same, on the remote device first select the localhost so it autofills the password, then select the remote device and away you go. Fringe info.

I don't have GUI ( X ) installed, so I need to connect to it via gui_rpc and I can't test your method.
